About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Pharmacy Technician to join our team at Nova Scotia Health. As a Pharmacy Technician, you will play a critical role in the provision of safe and effective patient care, working closely with our pharmacy team to prepare, package, and dispense medication under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.

Responsibilities
  • Compounding of sterile and non-sterile dosage forms
  • Dispensing drugs to inpatients and outpatients in unit dose
  • Physician order entry
  • Working with automation
  • Inventory control
  • Medication reconciliation
  • CIVA systems
  • Preparation of chemotherapy doses
  • Distributing narcotics
  • Participating in quality programs and patient safety initiatives
About You

We are looking for a candidate with a strong background in pharmacy technology, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited Pharmacy Technician Program
  • Licensure and registration in Nova Scotia as a Pharmacy Technician (NSCP) required
  • Drug administration by injection technical permit (Pharmacy Technician) an asset
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) required
  • Experience as a pharmacy technician/pharmacy practice assistant, preferably in a hospital, an asset
  • Knowledge of sterile technique and special precautions used with chemotherapy are an asset
  • Experience in unit dose drug distribution systems, automation technology, decentralized medication dispensing cabinets, an asset
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, inventory control and record keeping
  • Demonstrated good decision making and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to perform mathematical calculations related to medications
  • Knowledge of the law and regulations pertaining to the receipt, storage and distribution of prescription and narcotic drugs
  • Basic typing skills or computer/keyboard experience; skills in Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, etc.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
