The Jay and Sari Sonshine Centre for Stroke Prevention & Cerebrovascular Brain Health at Toronto Western Hospital is currently recruiting a COMMUNICATIONS ASSOCIATE to work with our team to promote various innovative projects in education, quality improvement and clinical practice around brain care/health to improve current stroke prevention initiatives, interventions, and programs. Under the co-supervision of Dr. Aleksandra Pikula and the Program Coordinator Angela Verven, the COMMUNICATIONS ASSOCIATE will be responsible for creating engaging and informative content. The role involves writing, editing, interviewing, and the exercise of editorial judgement and storytelling. It requires the incumbent to deliver material and the finished products to all communication channels (intranet, internet, video channels and social media) to deadline.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in social media-related research, social media SEO, and social media marketing and a passion for innovation and creativity.

Responsibilities

  • Copy editing and proof reading for a variety of projects
  • Editing and formatting to appropriate style for print and online
  • Assists with events organized by the department as requested
  • Conducts thorough social media-related research on brain health and stroke prevention related topics – lifestyle, sex/gender disparities, innovations, global public health, community-based initiatives
  • Enhances public awareness and the visibility of the Jay and Sari Sonshine Centre (JSSC)
  • Creates clear and compelling content for websites, blogs, social media, and other platforms
  • Optimizes content for search engines using appropriate keywords and SEO techniques
  • Stays up to date with industry trends and best practices in content writing
  • Stays on top of current digital trends and technologies with a view to finding the most useful and usable tools
  • Assists with email marketing campaigns and copywriting, as needed
  • Provides strategic communications support for other ongoing projects – including print and electronic related to JSSC
Qualifications
  • Minimum of one to two (1-2) years public relations experience required
  • Computer literacy required - Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, desktop publishing, Canva
  • Proven work experience as a Content Creator or similar role
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills
  • Strong knowledge of SEO principles and best practices
  • Proficiency in social media marketing and email marketing strategies
  • Basic understanding of CSS and web design principles
  • Effective organizational and, interpersonal and communications skills
  • Experience with graphic design software is a plus
  • Knowledge of digital marketing trends and tools
  • Create engaging healthcare related content that captivates our audience (e.g. YouTube)
  • Ability to establish solid working relationships with staff at all levels
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently under pressure
  • Ability to use good judgment in assessing difficult situations
  • Ability to juggle work projects
  • Understanding of organizational communications
