Job Summary

The Manager, Academic Innovation & Accreditation, plays a crucial role in supporting the Faculty's mission by conceptualizing plans and providing leadership to the Departments and Schools in the Faculty of Applied Science. This role is responsible for working with faculty members to lead the planning and execution of curriculum projects and programs from initial conception to completion.

Key Responsibilities
  • Program Development and Management
    • Manage strategic projects/initiatives integral to the planning, execution, and evaluation of programs for the Departments and Schools in the Faculty of Applied Science.
    • Provide strategy and decision support, including advising on complex academic project plans, defining project objectives, timelines, and resource allocation, and devising market strategies.
    • Write, review, and analyze complex documents for ministry-level approval.
    • Manage program evaluations, including the establishment of performance metrics and creation of complex reporting on student enrollment, market assessments, and the financial impact of programs.
    • Conduct complex analysis to identify barriers that may impact program implementation or sustained success, and advise and collaborate with faculty and staff to recommend possible solutions.
    • Act as an advisor on the development of curriculum proposals by working closely with faculty members on course and program proposal development, coordinating the flow of all proposals and consultation requests, and managing standard curricular language and tool kits for proposals.
    • Manage the development and implementation of curriculum procedures, including providing advice on curriculum policies, procedures, and execution, overseeing the planning, documentation, and follow-up of curriculum meetings, developing and implementing communication plans for curriculum renewal, and evaluating and streamlining processes and procedures.
  • Accreditation Management
    • Lead the Engineering accreditation process for the Faculty of Applied Science Point Grey Campus and one joint program with the University of Northern BC.
    • Create internal policies on accreditation, including establishing administrative procedures and guidelines, ensuring compliance for all applications, and creating efficient processes.
    • Analyze data and develop sustainable systems for data collection, analysis, management, and presentation for the purpose of program assurance.
    • Address complex policy issues related to accreditation and provide advice and consultation on the accreditation portfolio to the Departments and Programs.
    • Develop and manage any strategic projects related to Accreditation, providing phased-in implementations and managing effective change management and communication plans.
    • Manage the accreditation review process by working with the individual departments and programs on the continual process and maintenance for accreditation.
    • Lead the preparation for site visits that occur on differing schedules based on previous accreditation review results for the fifteen (15) Engineering programs.
    • Oversee accreditation review documentation to ensure requirements are met by reviewing information, soliciting content, and confirming accuracy.
    • Conduct research, collect and analyze data, and review information from various sources to create reports for the Associate Dean's and/or Dean's use in promoting the progress and achievements of the Faculty.
    • Develop and maintain accreditation forms and systems and manage the financial and budgetary components of the accreditation process.
    • Oversee the organization of the Accreditation Team visits.
    • Remain informed and up-to-date on changes to the accreditation process.
Requirements
  • Education
    • Master's degree in Education.
  • Experience
    • Minimum of six years of related experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Skills
    • Ability to work effectively with teams as well as work independently.
    • Self-motivated and able to prioritize and take initiative in determining work priorities.
    • Ability to analyze and interpret data, determine implications, and provide recommendations.
    • Ability to critically analyze problems, identify key information and issues, and effectively resolve problems.
    • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work effectively in a multi-tasking environment under pressure with a high volume of work and critical deadlines.
    • Ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail.
    • Ability to work effectively and diplomatically with various levels of senior administration, university personnel, and federal and provincial representatives.
    • Strong communication skills and the ability to adapt writing style for various purposes.
