What can I expect to do in this role?

Provide laundry services including:
sorting, washing, drying and folding all facility issued youth clothing, bedding and kitchen uniforms using the appropriate wash cycle, water temperature, and detergent

  • Ensure the laundry area and equipment is operated and maintained in a safe, secure, and clean manner
  • Collect and distribute the laundry to the various areas in the facility and maintain laundry inventory
  • Requisition supplies as required
  • Maintain logs and reports
  • Other duties, as assigned
How do I qualify?Specialized Knowledge and Experience

  • You have working knowledge of laundry, drying, and dry-cleaning processes and procedures
  • You have knowledge of fabrics to determine the appropriate laundering method
  • You have experience operating industrial laundry equipment/machinery
  • You have knowledge of workplace health and safety (i.e. Workplace Hazard Materials Information System (WHMIS), Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and the Occupational Health and Safety Act)
  • You can ensure compliance with organizational policies and safe operation of equipment
Skills

  • You have demonstrated oral and written communication skills in order to understand and follow washing/drying instructions
  • You are able to effectively interact with staff and youth residents
  • You have problem-solving skills to determine appropriate laundering methods
  • You have organizational skills to prioritize and complete work on time
