About the Role:

Gannett Fleming is seeking a highly skilled Senior Environmental Planner to join our team in Toronto, Ontario. This position will involve working closely with our environmental scientists, planners, and project managers to deliver a wide range of Environmental Assessment projects across various sectors, including transportation infrastructure, transit expansion, water/wastewater, and more.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage Environmental Assessment projects, including Ministry of Transportation (MTO) Class EAs, Municipal Engineers Association Class EAs, Transit Project Assessments, and other related projects.
  • Collaborate with the engineering design team to ensure technical and environmental workstreams are aligned and integrated throughout the EA process.
  • Develop and author Environmental Assessment Reports, Technical Studies, and other supporting environmental documentation to meet regulatory requirements.
  • Interpret and apply relevant legislation, including the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act, Impact Assessment Act, and Ontario Regulation 231/08.
  • Design and implement public/stakeholder consultation plans and engagement strategies for EA projects.
  • Conduct public, review agency, and Indigenous Communities consultation, including technical meetings, preparation of communication materials, consultation reports, stakeholder responses, and comment tracking.
  • Liaise with regulatory agencies and assist in preparing consultation strategies and meeting materials.
  • Develop environmental impact assessments, including mitigation strategies and best management practice approaches.
  • Monitor EA project schedules, scopes, and budgets in accordance with project management plans.
  • Manage teams of environmental and technical disciplines, including subconsultants, as part of the EA process.
  • Support the preparation of documentation for permits and approvals.
  • Coordinate environmental aspects of projects through planning, design, contract specifications, and/or construction.
  • Contribute to business development pursuits, including proposal preparation, development of technical workplans, and preparation of project fee estimates.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Management, Planning, Engineering, Urban Planning, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 10-15 years of practical experience managing and delivering Environmental Assessments in Ontario.
  • Established working knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act, Impact Assessment Act, and Ontario Regulation 231/08.
  • Experience managing and delivering MTO Class EAs and Municipal Class EAs.
  • Understanding of transportation, transit, and municipal infrastructure construction projects gained through practical experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering plans and drawings.
  • Demonstrated sense of urgency with a strong commitment to ensuring client satisfaction, achieving goals, and objectives.
  • Working knowledge of regulatory requirements related to noise, cultural heritage, archaeology, natural heritage, air quality, land use, species at risk, and more.
  • Excellent self-management, time management, and organizational skills with the ability to set priorities and multi-task.
  • Familiarity and working knowledge of various environmental permits and approvals.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, team-oriented, and ability to work independently.
  • Professional designation such as Registered Professional Planner (RPP) or Project Management Professional (PMP) is an asset.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, Adobe Acrobat applications, and file sharing systems.
