Municipal Enforcement Officer

The Town of Hay River is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated individual to fill the position of Municipal Enforcement Officer on a permanent, full-time basis.

Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Protective Services, the incumbent is responsible for enforcing compliance with the Town of Hay River Bylaws. The duties for this position include a combination of administrative work and time spent in the field patrolling, enforcing and communicating bylaw requirements to the public.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Enforce compliance with Town of Hay River Bylaws and selected Territorial Acts
  • Respond to public complaints and concerns
  • Patrol and enforce parking regulations
  • Inspect properties and enforce property standards
  • Control and manage animals
  • Enforce the Motor Vehicles Act, The All-Territorial Vehicles Act, and the Dog Act
  • Investigate bylaw offences and take necessary action
Collaboration and Communication:

The incumbent will work closely with the Assistant Director of Protective Services to set goals for the municipal enforcement department, establish policies and procedures, and report on municipal enforcement activities.

Community Engagement:

The Municipal Enforcement Officer will have a defined public presence, which may include speaking at schools, community events, and other meetings.

Additional Responsibilities:

The incumbent will also respond to fire and medical emergency incidents as an active member of the Hay River Fire Department.

Requirements:
  • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Bylaw Enforcement Certification or equivalent
  • A minimum of one year of bylaw enforcement experience or equivalent
  • Lidar/Radar certification (training can be provided)
  • NFPA 1001 Level 1 and 2 or other relevant structural firefighting training (training can be provided)
  • Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) or other relevant medical certifications (training can be provided)
