Corporate Services Director

The Director of Corporate Services is a senior leadership position responsible for overseeing the Town of Hay River's corporate finances, administrative functions, customer service protocols, legal services, information technologies, and human resources management. This role reports to the Senior Administrative Officer and requires a strong understanding of municipal policies and procedures, as well as compliance with territorial and federal legislation.
Key Responsibilities- Department Leadership: Direct, monitor, and oversee the activities of the Corporate Services Department, including supervising staff, undertaking employee performance management, and ensuring staff are appropriately trained.
- Strategic Planning: Provide effective strategic financial, customer service, human resources, and administration planning and information to the SAO, senior management, and at times, directly to Council.
- Comptrollership: Provide comptrollership functions to ensure accounting and financial reporting procedures are followed in accordance with legislation, policies, procedures, and generally accepted accounting principles.
- Human Resources Management: Oversee effective corporate human resources management to ensure human capital is maximized and related procedures are compliant with legislation, policy, and the collective agreement.
- Technology and Electronic Information Systems: Manage the municipal legal services contract(s) to ensure strong counsel is in place to reduce corporate liabilities and financial risks, and oversee all corporate technology and electronic information systems.
- Public Service: Respond to inquiries and investigate complaints from the public and public agencies, and participate in the development and implementation of public service levels and standards.
The ideal candidate will have a professional accounting designation (CA, CGA, CMA) from a recognized accounting program and/or a Bachelor of Business Administration/Commerce degree, with several years of related senior financial and administrative experience and supervisory experience, preferably in a municipal or other government sector.
The candidate will also possess strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, computerized accounting programs, accounts payable/accounts receivable, and financial statement preparation, as well as excellent communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
