Job Title: Pathologist Assistant
Nova Scotia Health is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Pathologist Assistant to join our team. As a Pathologist Assistant, you will play a critical role in supporting the pathologist and laboratory management team in the diagnosis and treatment of patients.
About the Opportunity
- Reporting to the Laboratory Manager, you will be responsible for performing Gross Room and Autopsy activities following procedures, processes, protocols, and policies under the direction of the pathologist and laboratory management team.
- You will assist the pathologist in the initial assessment of surgically removed tissues, evaluating gross pathologic features used to assist in diagnosis.
- You will provide expertise and support to Medical Laboratory Technologists (MLT) who are performing grossing.
- You may support the pathologist by performing autopsy prosection; procuring appropriate tissues and organs, dissecting tissues and submitting the required tissue for pathological diagnosis.
About You
- You must be certified as a Pathology Assistant by the Canadian Certification Council of Pathologists' Assistants (CCCPA) or by the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC).
- A graduate of an approved MSc Pathologist Assistant program is preferred.
- Experience with Cerner LIS is preferred.
- Experience with Dragon is an asset.
- You must have a strong background in anatomy, physiology, histology, pathology, and medical terminology.
- You must have demonstrated customer service skills, leadership skills, excellent organization and technical skills, as well as good decision-making skills.
- You must be able to work both independently and in a team-oriented environment.
- You must be able to communicate effectively and professionally.
- Competencies in other languages are an asset, with French being preferred.
Hours and Compensation
- This is a permanent, full-time position with 75 hours bi-weekly.
- Shift work is required, including weekends and holidays.
- Travel may be required.
- The hourly rate is $45.40.
