Duties and Responsibilities:


Reporting to the Manager, Strategic Initiatives, the Senior Special Project Officer is responsible for the development and implementation of an assigned special project related to supporting student success.

Specific tasks and outcomes will be provided for this special project as determined by the Manager, Strategic Initiatives.

This includes creating and executing a communication plan designed to raise the level of awareness of the special project among key audiences to help improve student retention and graduation.

The project of focus will be implementing the assessment and evaluation framework across the Students and Enrolment division.

Qualifications:

The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:

  • Advanced communications skills
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills are required
  • Superior interpersonal and negotiating skills
  • Proven ability to develop, implement and measure project implementation plans
  • A solid understanding of the University environment
  • Ability to interact successfully with all levels of administration and faculty
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Exceptional level of initiative and reliability
  • Proficiency in working with PowerPoint and Word
  • Web writing and content design experience
Education and Experience:
The above is normally acquired through the completion of:

  • Five years of experience working in a university environment. Experience in a project management role would be considered a strong asset.
  • Must remain current on departmental and University policies and directions, and keep up-to-date on developments in the area of student support, retention and graduation.
  • The incumbent must maintain and enhance project management through attendance at professional development courses and seminars, reading trade publications, journals, manuals and books; making full use of information resources on the internet; exchanging information with professional colleagues at Carleton University and externally.
