Seeking a Building Operator for a long-term healthcare facility in Ottawa, ON, responsible for maintaining and repairing mechanical and electrical systems, ensuring energy efficiency, and responding to tenant requests.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform daily rounds and log readings
  • Review and complete daily entries into the engineer's log; investigate any issues
  • Complete preventative/demand maintenance tasks and input histories into the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) as needed; report required changes to supervisor
  • Start-up/shutdown building infrastructure equipment
  • Ensure maximum energy efficiency, inspect/operate/maintain and repair mechanical/electrical systems and equipment (including boilers, chillers, HVAC equipment, pumps, generators, life safety system, etc.)
  • Perform repairs such as: replace washers/faucets, clear sinks, toilets and drains, clear grease traps/sumps, re-pack valves, replace pumps/motors, reset breakers, repair pipe systems, etc.
  • Maintain fan/air handling units which may include greasing of bearings, replacement of filters, belt inspections and replacements
  • Conduct water treatment tests
  • Conduct generator tests
  • Troubleshoot/repair all building infrastructure equipment, plumbing systems, HVAC, doors and hardware, nurse call system, electrical lighting systems
  • Escalate unusual events, occurrences or unsafe conditions to supervisor
  • Respond to tenant requests and emergencies
  • Oversee work of contractors/external service providers to ensure adherence to contract specifics and company/industry standards
  • Participate in meetings as required
  • Pump teardown/minor repairs/alignment
  • Perform general building maintenance/repairs (i.e., painting, drywall, grounds maintenance)
  • Assist other classifications/trades as required

Hours of Work:

  • Monday - Friday day shift; On-Call; some overtime

Requirements:

  • Preference will be given to candidates with their BES I Certificate; or 4th class Operating Engineer; or provincial trades certification of qualification
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the operation and maintenance of facilities
  • Must submit to Criminal Record check
  • Proven computer skills (i.e., Microsoft Office - Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Working knowledge of Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and Building Automation System (BAS)
  • Ability to read and understand drawings and schematics
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English (oral and written)
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to work alone and unsupervised
