About the Role * Provide and coordinate the delivery of psychiatric nursing care services to patients treated/admitted to the Pediatric Emergency Department * Conduct psychiatric nursing assessments, screen medical conditions and lab values, and develop and adjust nursing care plans * Administer medications and monitor patient responses * Document treatment outcomes and provide observational and functional feedback to assist in accurate psychiatric diagnosis * Participate in group program leadership activities and provide direction to Health Care Workers and/or Youth Workers * Collaborate with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to ensure seamless care transitions and effective communication Responsibilities * Receive referrals from the Patient Care Coordinator and internal/external sources * Evaluate psychiatric nursing care needs and provide direct care to patients * Develop and modify individualized care plans in consultation with the interprofessional team and family members * Perform psychosocial assessments and collect collateral information related to patients' primary support group, social environment, occupation, education, housing, finance, health service access, and legal problems * Develop care plans with final dispositions authorized by the Emergency Department Physician or consulting Psychiatrist * Maintain clinical records and provide general and crisis counseling to patients and their families * Collaborate with Emergency Department staff and other allied health department service providers * Liaise and communicate with Coordinators and other team members of the community mental health team on client care issues, resources, and discharge planning process Qualifications * Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse and/or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) * One (1) year's recent, related experience in an acute psychiatric setting, including experience working with an adolescent population, specialty training in adolescent psychiatry or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience * Demonstrated knowledge of mental health assessment, psychopharmacology, concurrent disorders, and DSM-V multiaxial diagnoses * Knowledge of crisis intervention and de-escalation strategies, suicide risk assessment, violence management protocols, general counseling, and interview techniques and individual and group dynamics About Fraser Health Fraser Health is a leading healthcare provider in British Columbia, serving over 2 million people in Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley.
