Emergency Psychiatric Liaison Nurse Specialist

The Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RN/RPN) plays a vital role in the Pediatric Emergency Department, providing psychiatric nursing care services to patients. As a member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team, the RN/RPN demonstrates nursing expertise and provides clinical leadership in evidence-based practices.
Key Responsibilities- Provides direct psychiatric nursing care to patients, including assessments, screenings, and development of individualized care plans.
- Collaborates with the interprofessional team to ensure comprehensive care and coordinates referrals to community resources.
- Participates in group program leadership activities and provides education to patients, families, and caregivers on illness prevention, health maintenance, and health promotion strategies.
- Liaises with Emergency Department staff and other allied health department service providers to ensure seamless care transitions.
- Acts as a patient advocate, assisting patients and families to access community resources and services.
- Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse and/or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
- One year's recent, related experience in an acute psychiatric setting, including experience working with an adolescent population, specialty training in adolescent psychiatry, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of mental health assessment, psychopharmacology, concurrent disorders, and DSM-V multiaxial diagnoses.
- Knowledge of crisis intervention and de-escalation strategies, suicide risk assessment, violence management protocols, general counselling and interview techniques, and individual and group dynamics.
