Note:

Effective January 1st, 2024 the salary range for this position is $1,812.93 to $2,272.08 per week in compliance with the applicable OPPA collective agreement provisions.

The new rates, effective retroactive to January 1, 2023, were recently confirmed and dates for implementation of the new salary rates are still to be determined.

What can I expect to do in this role?In this position, you will:

Comprehensive support role:
You'll be providing end-to-end support for both on-premise and cloud-based infrastructure, ensuring optimal performance, availability, and reliability.

  • On-premise infrastructure management: Manage and troubleshoot physical and virtual servers, storage systems, and network components in our datacenters. You'll be working hands-on with hardware, including servers, SANs, and other critical infrastructure components.

Virtualization expertise:
Expect to work extensively with virtualization technologies, such as VMware or Nutanix, to manage virtual environments. Your role will involve creating, managing, and optimizing virtual machines and ensuring their seamless operation.

Azure cloud operations:
Support our growing Azure environment, including virtual machines, networking, storage accounts, and other cloud services. You'll help optimize cloud resources, manage costs, and ensure security and compliance.

Incident response and troubleshooting:
Be prepared to respond to and resolve incidents and technical issues promptly.

You'll be part of a team responsible for diagnosing and fixing complex problems, whether they occur in our datacenter or in the cloud.


Automation and scripting:
You'll be expected to develop and maintain scripts to automate routine tasks, improve efficiency, and reduce manual intervention. Familiarity with PowerShell, Azure CLI, or other scripting languages will be beneficial.

  • Collaboration with cross-functional teams: Work closely with other IT teams, including network, security, and application teams, to ensure seamless integration and operation of systems across the organization.

Continuous learning and development:
The role requires staying up-to-date with the latest developments in both on-premise and cloud technologies. Expect to engage in ongoing training and certification opportunities to sharpen your skills and advance your career.

Security and compliance:

You'll play a key role in ensuring that all systems meet our organization's security and compliance standards, including data protection and regulatory requirements.


Monitoring and reporting:
Regularly monitor system performance, capacity, and availability, and generate reports to help inform decision-making and strategic planning.

How do I qualify?Mandatory

  • Ability to pass an OPP background security investigation. Valid Ontario Driver's Licence.
  • Ability to achieve Ministry technical accreditation standards.
  • Ability to work on a regularly scheduled on-call basis
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

o Current and emerging:
Microsoft and Linux Operating Systems for servers, Windows desktops, mobile device, Microsoft Office products and all related applications.

o Active Directory (AD) and related tools, Domain Name Servers (DNS), Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), scripting languages such as Powershell and other command line tools, remote device administration, MS SQL database server maintenance.


  • Interpersonal skills to work both within a team environment and/or with minimal supervision.
  • Effective time and project management skills to work effectively under pressure and organize work.
  • Analytical and evaluative skills to identify root cause, determine and resolve technical malfunctions; and recommend solutions such as programming/application changes and reconfiguration of hardware/software.
  • Abililty to make decisions by determining backup procedures and disaster recovery plans; recommending ways to improve the capacity and performances of the network (e.g. new hardware configuration, new software); making recommendations on feasibility of requests for new features and additional network services; and decision-making capabilities when working independently.
