Job Title: Senior Producer, Assignment (English Services) We are seeking an experienced journalist and newsroom leader to drive our daily and enterprise news coverage as senior producer of assignment. At CBC/Radio-Canada, we create content that informs, entertains and connects Canadians on multiple platforms. As a senior producer, you will oversee our newsgathering resources, deciding what stories to cover, when and by whom. You will be the lead producer on the assignment desk, ensuring that your teams set the news agenda for Edmonton and northern Alberta throughout the week. Your Key Responsibilities: • Organize and lead news coverage across all platforms (digital, social, radio, television, streaming), including making decisions about story priorities and rollouts, allocating resources and assigning staff, and providing editorial oversight to ensure our content is original, relevant and impactful, and meets our journalistic standards. • Oversee all aspects of story development including assigning, researching, gathering, writing, editing, vetting and packaging. • Ensure assignments and content choices resonate with residents of Edmonton and northern Alberta and align with CBC's strategic objectives to connect with and grow audiences. • Oversee and collaborate with the other producers on the assignment desk (afternoons, weekends) to ensure continuity of news coverage. • Coordinate and collaborate on story assignments with senior producers of digital, visuals and current affairs radio, as well as with producers in other locations and program units. • Provide feedback and coaching to journalists to help them develop their skills and produce content of the highest quality. • Help lead the planning of newsroom-wide coverage for special projects and events. • Help oversee staffing and scheduling decisions. Your Ideal Profile: • Demonstrated experience leading a team in a fast-paced daily multi-platform news environment. • Excellent journalistic and critical thinking skills, including knowledge of and familiarity with CBC's Journalistic Standards and Practices as well as the legal and ethical issues related to journalism. • Ability to manage and organize large volumes of fast-moving information and redirect resources to meet priorities and objectives. • Knowledge of and experience in assigning and creating content for all platforms (digital, social, radio, television, streaming) as well as vetting, editing, fact-checking and packaging. • Superior communication, interpersonal and organizational skills. • A strategic thinker with a proven track record of executing on a vision. • Demonstrated ability to exercise both quick editorial judgment and long-term planning. • A high-energy leader with a positive, team-first attitude and the ability to motivate and coach teams, encourage creativity and embrace experimentation. • Experience and commitment to developing content strategies to feature new voices and perspectives and to connect with new, younger and more diverse audiences. • A strong proven connection to the communities we serve in Edmonton and northern Alberta, and a deep and nuanced understanding and appreciation of diverse perspectives and lived experiences. • Strong people management skills with a keen desire to live and promote the values of diversity and an inclusive and respectful work culture. • Ability and willingness to work flexible hours as required. • Possession of a valid driver's licence.
