About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated individual to join our team as a Classroom Support Specialist. This is an exciting opportunity to work with students who are Deaf in a classroom setting and contribute to their academic and personal growth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide individual and group support to students who are Deaf in a classroom setting
  • Assist in implementing academic and prescribed behavior management programs
  • Communicate effectively with students and staff using American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Support students with physical needs and follow up on specialized programs
  • Assist in program preparation and materials
Requirements
  • Community College certificate and/or equivalent training, education, and working experience in a child-related field
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and staff using American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Current certification in CPR and First Aid
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience working with students who are Deaf and may have other emotional and behavioral disorders
  • Demonstrated experience implementing academic and prescribed behavior management programs in the classroom
  • Knowledge of education terms and strategies as they relate to students with behavioral and educational exceptionalities
  • Knowledge of child development and an understanding of caring for students with special needs
  • Excellent communications skills, written English and American Sign Language (ASL) to communicate effectively with students and staff
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, procedures, guidelines, practices that address student care and safety
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and observation skills to identify students' needs/difficulties
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team
  • Ability and willingness to assist special needs students as required
