Substance Use Clinician

Fraser Health is seeking a dedicated Substance Use Clinician to join our team. As a member of our Mental Health & Substance Use Services team, you will play a vital role in providing culturally competent care and support to individuals and families affected by substance use disorders.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of the South Asian community. As a Substance Use Clinician, you will work with clients and families to provide assessment, treatment, and support services. You will also collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless care coordination and system navigation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform initial screenings of referrals to determine appropriate treatment based on client needs and best practices.
  • Assess client needs by gathering information and collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to determine the best approach to care.
  • Provide first-level intervention and support until formal treatment or further assessment can be conducted.
  • Develop and implement recovery-oriented treatment options and plans through collaboration with clients and natural supports.
  • Facilitate client utilization of appropriate community services and rehabilitative programs.
  • Provide referrals to community treatment alternatives and services, including residential programs and vocational programs.
  • Provide education to clients and families on mental health and substance abuse issues, the recovery process, and relapse prevention strategies.
  • Maintain client records and ensure access to and disclosure of information and records are in accordance with established standards and policies.
  • Develop linkages with other facilities and community resources to improve access, integration, and coordination of mental health services.
  • Promote quality improvement through recommendations on policies, processes, and procedures that streamline and provide for more efficient and effective client-centered practices.
Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in an applicable social or health sciences program, such as Counselling Psychology or Social Work.
  • Two (2) years' recent related experience working with clients and families with, or affected by, mental illness and substance use disorders.
  • Eligible for registration with relevant/applicable professional association.
  • Valid B.C. Driver's License and access to a personal vehicle for work-related purposes.
Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to communicate effectively in Punjabi/Hindi and English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of harm reduction and trauma-informed practice.
