About the Role

The Salvation Army is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Shelter Support Worker to join our team. As a key member of our shelter staff, you will play a vital role in ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of our clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide emotional support and crisis intervention to clients, promoting a safe and healthy environment.
  • Monitor client activities and provide personal, practical, and moral support as needed.
  • Accurately record day-to-day happenings and incidents using established methods.
  • Assist clients in accessing clean clothing, laundry services, and other essential resources.
  • Coordinate guest care and security issues, ensuring a secure and respectful environment.
  • Perform janitorial duties and maintain a clean and safe facility.
  • Collaborate with other staff members to ensure seamless service delivery.
Qualifications and Education

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Food Safe Level 1 certification or willingness to obtain.
  • CPR First Aid certification or willingness to obtain.
  • WHMIS Training and Universal Precautions Training.

Additionally, you will possess:

  • A heart for people and a passion for serving others.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing situations.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications

A post-secondary diploma in a related field, such as Social Service Work or Mental Health and Addictions, is an asset. You may be required to provide a background check consent, clear vulnerable sector screening, clean drivers abstract, and completion of our online Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training prior to hiring.
