We are seeking a skilled Recreation Therapist to join our team at Nova Scotia Health. As a member of our multi-disciplinary team, you will provide a diverse range of interventions to clients and their families, enabling them to achieve their optimal level of functioning and health.
A Recreation Therapist utilizes therapeutic intervention comprised of treatment, leisure education, and recreation participation to promote physical, cognitive, emotional, and social functioning of patients. You will work closely with the interdisciplinary team to provide assessment and treatment plans regarding leisure opportunities and resources to improve functioning and independence.
The successful candidate will be involved in quality improvement and evaluation activities to support continuous improvements in the provision of Therapeutic Recreation Services and inter-professional team functioning for excellence in client care.
About YouWe are looking for a candidate with a Baccalaureate degree in Recreation or Leisure Studies with an emphasis in Therapeutic Recreation, and certification as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist with NCTRC. Experience in working with various populations/disability groups is preferred.
You will possess knowledge of leisure/recreation assessments, leisure education, and leisure counseling processes, as well as knowledge of various health conditions and their impact on health and well-being.
Effective counseling and verbal/written communication skills are essential, as well as the ability to set priorities and work independently. Demonstrated ability to establish and promote good interpersonal relationships and select suitable activities is also required.
Hours and CompensationThis is a full-time long-assignment position with 75 hours bi-weekly. The hourly rate is $42.01.
