Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Activity Support Specialist to join our Adult Day Program team. In this role, you will play a vital part in enriching the lives of program participants by implementing engaging activities and providing personalized support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop individualized service plans for each client, ensuring their unique needs and preferences are met.
  • Implement and evaluate service plans, making adjustments as needed in collaboration with families, caregivers, and the program team.
  • Work alongside Recreational Therapists and Program Coordinators to plan and deliver a diverse range of social and recreational activities that promote cognitive stimulation, physical well-being, and social interaction.
  • Lead group activities designed to enhance mobility, communication skills, reminiscing, and a sense of community among participants.
  • Provide assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) as required, including toileting, personal hygiene, and medication reminders.
  • Contribute to a safe and secure environment for clients, volunteers, and staff by identifying potential risks and implementing appropriate interventions.
  • Effectively utilize the talents and expertise of volunteers within the program.
Qualifications
  • Diploma or Certificate from a Community College level program in healthcare, social science, or recreation with an emphasis on Gerontology.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certifications, as well as a Food Handler's certificate.
  • GPA or Montessori certification is an asset.
  • 1-2 years of recent experience in Adult Day Services or working with groups of clients is highly desirable.
  • Proven experience working with adults, particularly individuals (and their caregivers) with Alzheimer's disease and other cognitive impairments and/or physical disabilities in a social setting is essential.
Skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong observational skills related to client functioning abilities.
  • Awareness of community resources available to support clients.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Willingness to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when required.
Other Requirements
  • A current and original copy of a satisfactory Criminal Records Check.
  • A Vulnerable Sector Search and/or a Child Abuse Registry Check may be required.
