We are looking for a Senior Communications Advisor to join our dynamic team in a full-time role, as we work together to support the AESO in shaping the future of electricity in Alberta. Reporting to the Manager, Communications, this position requires an experienced professional to work closely with senior leaders on high-profile communications and stakeholder initiatives that directly impact the reputation and success of the AESO.

We have a Flexible Workplace Practice and support a hybrid work environment, coming together as a team Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in the office with from wherever you do your best work on Monday and Friday.

Key accountabilities:

  • Lead the strategic development, execution, and measurement of the AESO's internal communications strategy, project-specific internal and external communication plans, and activities that support the Corporate Strategic Plan.
  • Develop a broad range of communications tactics including speeches, presentations, intranet articles, website copy, key messages, briefing notes, executive emails, videos, promotional material, infographics, and social media content.
  • Monitor industry issues and provide strategic communications counsel to senior leaders.
  • Lead the execution of large-scale events including employee town halls, industry information sessions, and webinars.
  • Work closely with other members of the Communications and Stakeholder Relations team to identify issues and opportunities for cross-functional collaboration and communications.
  • Copywrite, edit and proofread documents to ensure quality while adhering to corporate branding and editorial standards.
  • Participate in rotational on-call media and crisis communications.
  • Support the organization with other duties as needed.

You have:

  • A post-secondary education in public relations, journalism, or communications. Professional accreditation with CPRS or IABC is an asset.
  • Minimum 7+ years of strategic communications experience.

  • Excellent editing and proof-reading skills.
  • Corporate media spokesperson experience is an asset.
  • Strong presentation skills; facilitation training and experience is an asset.
  • Previous electricity or energy industry experience is an asset.
