The expected salary range for this role is CAD $ . This range is tied to the British Columbia market for jobs performed in British Columbia. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience. The salary offer will not be based on a candidate's pay history at other jobs, and by law, Newmont will not seek information about pay history, and candidates should not share such information with Newmont.

Dimensions

Directly reports to the Land Manager, Canada.

Purpose

Perform and/or support to all tasks related to the execution of all aspects of business practices related to the acquisition, protection, maintenance, management, and divestiture of land assets and associated legislative, regulatory, and contractual obligations to maintain those lands. Property rights to explore, develop, and mine are critical to Newmont's success.

Oversee the role of 'GIS Analyst, North America Land' – ensure quality and accuracy of GIS services delivered by this role, providing guidance, feedback, and training. Support the GIS initiatives with the Land team to improve quality and efficiency of data and services.

Accountable to Land Manager, Canada to manage, support, and assist with the acquisition and divesture of surface and mineral tenures in support of the Mines' exploration, development, and operations.

The "AOI", defined as the Area of Influence shall include Red Chris and Brucejack Project locations and "Other" related explorations lands.

Essential Duties

Land Management

Manage land resources by ensuring all land is kept in "good standing" and available for mining and exploration.

Renew claims, Mining leases, Crown leases, Licenses of Occupation and permits as required, in compliance with Newmont's Land Standard. Follow all regulatory and corporate policies and procedures.

Ensure that advance notice and strategic opportunities for claims coming due and long-term planning is delivered to Exploration Managers and/or Chief Geologists to aid in scheduling of work.

Manage competitor information for possible acquisition of properties having strategic and/or geologic value, within the AOI.

Provide support and assistance with any special projects as required for land tenure, permitting, and agreements.

Research, analyze, and confirm land status and property ownership, and determine most suitable manner of acquiring or retaining required surface and/or mineral tenure.

Assist Land Manager, Canada as necessary for evaluations outside the prescribed AOI.

Liaise with team members and administrators for Landfolio software maintenance, testing, and upgrades.

Agreement Administration

Ensure that all terms and obligations of land agreements are satisfied and complied with (e.g., joint ventures, options, work commitments, easements, lease agreements, royalties, reporting, and notices etc.)

Maintain and organize all land agreements as per applicable projects and provide adequate notice for completion of all terms and conditions, and incorporation into the work schedule and budgets of the business.

Record, document, monitor, and track all land agreements, permits, license tenure, leases, claims, etc. and related obligations and land management responsibilities using Landfolio, Newmont's Global Land Asset Management system.

Tax and Budget Management

Budget and manage work commitments, option payments, taxes, rents, and land agreements to maximize any potential cost savings.

Ensure payment of all Provincial and Municipal taxes and rents to maintain rights to the lands.

Routinely engage and coordinate with government agencies in discharging above-captioned duties.

Maximize any cost savings on Municipal taxation by preparing appropriate applications for vacancies, any request for reconsideration, or appeals, demolition and construction.

Analyze/estimate cost effect on tax base and be proactive in pursuing any savings.

Roles and Responsibilities

Guide and mentor direct reports by supporting GIS projects and goals, overseeing the quality and accuracy of GIS products and services delivered by the team.

Provide opportunities for direct reports' continuous improvement, development and training.

Foster a culture of innovation and collaboration with other teams to continuously improve the overall quality of GIS data and services across North America.

GIS Analyst / Mapping Services

Provide support to assist with GIS Analyst / Mapping Services to design and administer geodatabases, GIS layers/views; maintain expertise in SQL Server, ArcGIS; Mapinfo, AutoCad.

Provide support to assist in analyzing land legal descriptions (e.g., deeds, contracts, titles, maps, etc.) and assist with production & editing of layers as needed to ensure accurate and detailed land spatial data.

Provide Support for Landfolio GIS mapping through creating, vetting, editing, and uploading spatial data, along with entering map references, editing the web map viewer, etc.

Provide support or occasional responsibilities for GIS/mapping tasks including georeferencing, digitizing, attribute data entry, metadata, coordinate conversions, format conversions, definition queries, layer creation, etc.

Work to ensure that Land Management and Mapping Services functions' work to vet spatial data is routinely provided to internal stakeholders to ensure critical decisions are being made with accurate maps.

Education, Training & Experience
  • Post-secondary education in Business Administration, mining Land Management experience, legal agreements experience an asset.
  • Post-secondary GIS / Mapping Certification an asset
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills – both written and oral.
  • Self-starter with excellent time management and prioritization skills.
  • Strong work ethic and sharp attention to detail.
  • Exemplary analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work under deadlines on multiple projects.
  • Adaptable to quick-paced, changing environment.
  • Ability to handle confidential and proprietary company data and information.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and willing to learn other computer applications, including, but not limited to, ArcGIS and Landfolio.
Other Information
  • Engages and works with stakeholders of Newmont's Land, Legal, Exploration, S&ER, Corporate Development and Finance Departments to ensure all land obligations, terms, and conditions are duly satisfied to ensure there is no loss of land.
  • Interacts with various government agencies to coordinate activities regulated by various acts and policies. Provide land training assistance to other sites when necessary.
  • Authorized to act as agent on behalf of the Company for claim renewals, staking and other aspects of land management through Provincial Government sites or other various government agencies and crown corporations as well as consultants both internal and external.
  • Accountable to ensure that all requirements to hold lands under the jurisdiction of the Municipal, Provincial and Federal Governments are met in an accurate and timely manner to maintain the integrity of the land position. Failure to comply with various legislative Acts and Regulations, and internal policies and procedures would impair the Mine's title to property and limit the right to mine and explore.
  • GIS/Access integrated mapping system updates, and daily use for land requirements.
  • Accountable for own health and safety and to provide input to improve the team's overall health and safety.
  • External Contacts include the Ministry of Energy and Mines, Lands and Natural Resources, and Forestry including various Assessment and Tax agencies for the management of Provincial and Municipal Taxes and Assessment and other Provincial Regulatory bodies as required and External land management consultants including Land Registry, Title Searchers and Consultant etc.. Joint Venture and Option partners and land owners.
