About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Health Services Manager, the Registered Nurse is a member of the surgical team who assesses patient status and responds to actual or potential health problems, plans and performs interventions; and evaluates patient outcomes following standards, guidelines and scope of professional nursing practice, with the intention of maintaining or regaining patient health. The Operating Room (OR) Nurse must be vigilant at all times and apply sound professional judgment as they fulfill various roles (e.g. Circulating Nurse, Scrub Nurse, and Recovery Room Nurse). The skills and knowledge requirements of the position make it unique within range of nursing positions at the hospital. When necessary, expected to be available for all shifts, including days, evenings, weekends and holidays. Candidates must be readily available for on call duty within 30 minutes.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:


• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing

• Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred

• Currently registered, and in good standing with the Nova Scotia College of Nursing (NSCN) or eligible for registration

• One (1) year recent Operating Room experience

• Perioperative Nursing Program (PONP) or willingness to take

For areas where we are unable to fill the above qualifications, alternative qualifications may be considered:


• Demonstrated leadership, organizational and time management skills

• Ability to promote and maintain good interpersonal relationships when dealing with patients, visitors and other health care providers

• Certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

• Operating Room shared competencies required

• Must be able to perform duties that involve lifting, bending and stretching

• Demonstrated commitment to continued professional development

• Displays a patient/client service attitude

• Supports a respectful workplace and ability to work within a team environment

• Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Compensation and Incentives

  • $ $49.01 Hourly
  • $50.73 with 25 years' RN experience
  • Successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
