Pay: $21.24 + job security

Shift: Continental day shift – 6 fewer workdays every month plus vacation

Schedule: 2 days on/2 days off, 3 days on/3 days off. Working from 6:10am – 6:30pm. Perfect for families trying to save on childcare.

Job Summary

The Lead Hand is responsible for ensuring the production plan outlined by the Supervisor is followed, and to lead the efficient operation of production activities in a safe and timely manner.

Job Duties

Production/Planning Responsibilities

  • Communicate with drivers, line operators, and other staff about product and equipment as outlined in the production plan.
  • Ensure production plan outlined by supervisor is followed by all production staff.
  • Ensure all rooms, labelers, and tubers are properly set up and ready for production.
  • Walk through the production line regularly to ensure all areas are running effectively, efficiently, and safely.
  • Conduct ongoing inspection of every bag/tub to ensure proper case codes and quality of product are maintained and advise supervisor of any concerns.
  • Complete second verification sheet to ensure product codes and dates are correct.
  • Check the physical and visual quality of product and report any concerns to Bosch operator as well as supervisor.
  • Fill in for key food safety personnel as required (production/shift supervisors).

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Assign staff to work locations and create rotation schedules.
  • Direct staff to dispose of garbage regularly throughout the shift (3 times per shift).
  • Advise staff to sweep floors, remove labels, and ensure overall area is kept neat, clean, and orderly.
  • Manage and lead staff, advising them of duties to be completed, and overseeing task completion.
  • Ensure startup and shutdown list is completed each shift.

Food Safety and OHS Responsibilities

  • Ensure that all man doors are closed, and that all rollup doors are operating.
  • Follow all applicable health & safety and food regulations and procedures, including wearing Personal Protective Equipment, such as steel toe shoes, safety glasses, hearing protection, Teflon gloves, etc.
  • Ensure each worker follows all applicable health and safety and food safety regulations.
  • Show interest in Ippolito Fruit and Produce Ltd H & S performance.
  • Uphold safety rules and support safety enforcement.
  • Correct substandard or unsafe acts or conditions.
  • Report, investigate, and document all injuries and incidents.
  • Report all workplace accidents or health and safety concerns to the Supervisor.
  • Attend training sessions as required, and ensure employees are up to date on required training.
  • Ensure hand wash stations are operating.

Requirements

Education

  • Minimum high school diploma. Post-secondary education an asset.

Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, organization, and planning skills.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to effectively lead and manage up to 40 employees at a time.
  • Ability to plan ahead, be alert, and resolve unexpected problems quickly and effectively.
  • Ability to work well with others and effectively communicate with other departments.

Experience

  • 2-3 years of previous experience in a production-like facility, preferably in the food industry.
  • Previous supervisory experience in a production role.
  • Previous Health and Safety training.

Training Responsibilities

(Training conducted in house and must be kept up to date)

  • Personal Practices, GMPs, Pre-Op,
  • Product Release SOP 1,2, 3, 5, 8, 9, 10 SOP 4.2, 7.1
  • SQF

Working Conditions

The incumbent is exposed to a production environment that contains noise and dirt. Moderate physical effort is required for this position as there is frequent handling of materials and equipment. Some lifting, standing, walking, and carrying are involved. Mental stress is relative to meeting tight deadlines, supervising multiple staff, and ensuring the safety of others.
