Position - Operations Manager (Geotechnical Services)

Location - Greater Toronto Area

Salary (130K-180K)

Skyline Recruitment is currently recruiting for an Operations Manager/Senior Geotechnical Engineer specializing in Geotechnical Services in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). This position plays a pivotal role in leading and expanding the Geotechnical Engineering Practice within the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Staff Supervision:

  • Ensure the safety and well-being of employees at work sites.
  • Supervise and monitor the performance and proficiency of staff at senior, intermediate, and junior levels.
  • Mentor staff members and provide technical assistance as needed.
  • Coordinate resource allocation, including employees and equipment, and manage scheduling, vacations, and other logistical aspects.

Financial and Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and manage group budgets to meet profit and utilization targets.
  • Track monthly group performance and oversee contract document preparation.

Coordination of Project Activities:

  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with clients, contractors, and regulatory bodies.
  • Assign work and develop schedules for employees.
  • Coordinate project activities with other departments within the company.
  • Manage relationships with contractors and vendors.

Business Development:

  • Engage in business development activities to build and maintain client relationships.
  • Monitor industry trends and attend trade shows and professional events.
  • Deliver presentations and seminars to promote the company’s profile.

Quality Control and Technical Engineering Duties:

  • Review technical reports and work of team members to ensure adherence to standards.
  • Continuously improve work quality through suggestions and mentorship.
  • Manage projects from proposal to completion, including budget allocation and client interactions.
  • Stay updated with technical advancements and participate in professional development activities.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geotechnical, Civil, or Geological Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in geotechnical engineering, with operational and personnel management experience.
  • Professional Engineering Designation in Ontario or eligibility for registration.
  • Experience in managing laboratory operations (CCIL certification considered an asset).
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with project-related financial management, including budgeting and invoicing.
  • Proven track record in business development and client interaction.
