Substance Use in Later Life (SUILL) program supports older adults with addiction and mental health concerns through group and individual therapy. The program is community based with a focus on maintaining clients in the community. The team includes mental health clinicians from multiple clinical backgrounds and psychiatrists who specialize in geriatric addiction and mental health. The SUILL team works within a recovery framework to support clients to address addiction, maintain their health and to continue to live in the community. SUILL is a small team composed of 3 clinicians, a part time outreach worker and 1 psychiatrist. The team works closely together providing both individual and group therapy. As part of the Community Geriatric Mental Health Program, SUILL is connected to clinicians and psychiatrists supporting clients across Calgary through diverse addiction and mental health programs. This position has been identified and is anticipated to transition to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. As a Mental Health Clinician, you will work as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team collaborating on the delivery of care for the needs of individuals, families and/or communities. You will be responsible for the intake, clinical interviews and screening of clients with addiction and mental health disorders. You will liaise with a variety of internal and external stakeholders and work collaboratively with other team members as required. You may have the opportunity to participate in program planning, development and to provide supervision to practicum students. This position is open to Registered Nurses, Registered Psychiatric Nurses, Registered Social Workers, Registered Psychologists, and Occupational Therapists.

Completion of one of the following programs: a Master's degree in Psychology, a Bachelor's degree in Social Work incorporating education in mental health assessment, brief counseling, and crisis intervention, a Master's or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy with similar educational components, a Bachelor's degree in Nursing with training and experience in mental health assessment, crisis intervention, and brief counseling, or a Bachelor's degree in Psychiatric Nursing. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college.

Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Social Work or a Master’s degree in Psychology. Full registration with a professional college under the Health Professions Act. Provisional registration not appropriate in this role. Social Workers require restricted activities designation. 2 years’ experience of Geriatric Mental Health. 2 years’ experience facilitating psychoeducational and therapeutic groups. 2-3 years’ experience in Addictions providing assessment and therapeutic intervention to patients with a broad range of addictions. 3 years’ experience in mental health in an area of sufficient acuity and complexity to provide skill in mental health assessment, risk assessment, provisional diagnoses for clients with a broad range of diagnoses. Basic computer skills including Outlook, MS Word and Excel required. A demonstrated track record of developing effective relationships with diverse professionals required. Experience working in a multidisciplinary team. Ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team. Ability to set priorities and manage time effectively. Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Strong individual and group therapy skills is an asset. Strong communication and presentation skills is an asset.
