As the HR Manager at GATX Corporation's Red Deer Service Center, you will play a vital role in supporting the Company's strategic objectives and plans by overseeing employee and labor relations, policy and procedure development, performance management, and training. You will be an integral part of the facility Leadership Team and serve as a Business Partner to the Service Center Manager, providing guidance and support to facility personnel in all aspects of the human resources function. Your effective communication, commitment to fairness and compliance with federal and provincial laws, and ability to handle administrative responsibilities will be crucial to your success in this role.
KEY ACTIVITIES:
Labor and Employee Relations
- Act as the main point of contact for dealing with the local union, demonstrating exceptional problem-solving skills and supporting local management with written grievances.
- Direct investigations of complaints, summarize facts for upper management and make recommendations for appropriate action.
- Promote positive employee relations company-wide, ensuring fair and equitable treatment for all employees.
- Provide guidance on collective bargaining agreements, plant rules, and attendance policy.
Talent and Performance Management/Organizational Development
- Develop and lead programs that ensure the professional development of employees across the organization.
- Implement initiatives to promote employee engagement, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Manage the hiring process, including creating job postings, reviewing resumes, conducting interviews, and making offers of employment.
- Collaborate with hiring managers and Talent, Learning & Development to facilitate the new hire onboarding process.
- Provide ongoing performance management support, feedback, and coaching for employees and managers.
- Analyze work issues and personnel placement, offering alternative solutions.
Operational Excellence
- Supervise all aspects of administration for employees, including employee counseling, insurance and pension coordination, recruiting and hiring, and time entry.
- Track and oversee completion of new hire performance reviews.
This position will require interaction with employees at all levels, corporate departments, and potential job candidates. Your impact on the business will be instrumental in acquiring, developing, and retaining talent, as well as ensuring functional HR excellence. Your ability to make complex decisions with clear, unbiased, and independent judgment will be crucial. Reporting to the HR Director - Operations and the Service Center Manager, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the success of GATX Corporation.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint); experience with applicant tracking systems is a plus.
- Bachelor's degree in business administration, Organizational Behavior, Human Resources, or equivalent experience, or a combination of education and experience that is equivalent.
- A minimum of 5 years of Human Resources experience, preferably in a unionized facility within the manufacturing or related industry.
- HR Certification is a plus.
OTHER:
- Some travel will be required for this role.
- You must be able to work effectively and safely in a plant environment.
