What Success Looks Like at Layfield

The Technical Product Manager will be the internal subject matter expert as well as the primary point of contact in the lifecycle management and development of their assigned product lines. The Technical Product Manager will work closely with the EBM Group & Sales team to gain a deep understanding of customer experience, to identify and fill product gaps and generate new ideas to grow market share.

The role will also collaborate with and influence internal stakeholders in the development of product marketing programs for the portfolio and will be involved with the creation and oversight of supporting content.

How You Will Lead

Products & Services Assigned:

Containment Systems including:

  • Layfield Manufactured Geomembranes.
  • Geomembranes made by strategic partners.
  • Associated containment products such as tank systems, leak location, and vapor barriers.
  • Geonets and Geocomposites.
  • AquaDam Coffer Dam and Flood Control.

Enclosure systems including:

  • Branded enclosure systems: WeatherPro, Tension Enclosure.
  • Insulated blankets and Tarpaulins including fire retardant roll stock.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Act as the primary technical liaison between manufacturing (internal and external) and our internal staff including sales, technical services, marketing, and supply chain. Respond to all technical enquiries within a 24-hour window.
  • Lead product development activities within your area of specialty with the goal of developing at least one new product or product improvement each year.
  • Work closely with EBMs and Sales Teams to develop and deliver technical solutions to our customers.
  • Contribute to efforts of increasing sales of your assigned product lines by at least 10% annually. This will be done through supporting the sales and specification setting functions to the highest level possible.
  • Elevate our technical support to the level the market expects.
  • Maximize SRED credits through regular tracking of research hours through the Layfield tracking spreadsheet.
  • Provide technical training to Layfield staff as required.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Represent Layfield and participate in industry events to stay on top of the latest industry developments.
  • Actively participate in standards associations as they relate to your area of expertise.
  • Deliver world class product experiences, looking for inspirations inside and outside the company.
  • Support Marketing content creation and product line positioning.
  • Work directly with customers on development of new products and other inquiries.

What We Look For

  • Degree in Engineering, Diploma in Engineering Technology or relevant experience.
  • 5+ years’ experience in an Engineering/Technologist or Technical Promotions role.
  • Active affiliations: Fabricated Geomembrane Institute, ASTM D35, Canadian Geotechnical Society, Geosynthetic Institute, & other relevant industry affiliations
  • Exceptionally high level of product knowledge, market & marketing strategy development
  • Entrepreneurial and innovative spirit and sense of urgency, and a highly motivated self-starter.
  • Ability to synthesize data, conducts analysis, and makes strategic business recommendations.
  • Knowledge of best practices for creating awareness, generating demand, and driving sales
  • Ability to clearly communicate complex technical and product features to sales, service, and customers through internal and external marketing methods.
  • Effective and proven organizational skills to meet multiple deadlines and handle multiple tasks in a high pressure and demanding work environment.
  • Ability to lead and manage projects successfully - on time, on budget, hit sales and margin goals.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced work environment.
  • Maintain relevant professional designations and fulfill Professional Development hours as required.
  • Continuously upgrade knowledge base to maintain “top of field” level of expertise.
  • Excellent written and oral communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong computer skills are required with proven proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Salary Range:

$95,000.00 to $135,000.00 per annum, this is individually tailored to reflect your unique experience, qualifications, and internal equity.
