As a senior member of the planning team, you will have full responsibility and exposure to all aspects of the firm's work. As a key contributing team member, the Senior Associate will work closely with Senior Management to inform strategic direction, business development and the firm's ongoing growth.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead in collaboration, with project leadership, and multidisciplinary teams to advance complex development projects.
  • Lead innovative policies, practices and outcomes.
  • Lead and manage the preparation of reports, presentations, and other materials for communication with clients and project stakeholders.
  • Oversee client contracts and budgets. Monitors project budget, invoice management and final closing of projects.
  • Create, facilitate, and present at public consultation events, neighbourhood information meetings, and Committee/Council meetings.
  • Provide expert witness testimony at OLT hearings and related proceedings.
  • Lead development application review for clients, lead development applications and liaise with sub-consultants, municipal staff and review agencies.
  • Manage and mentor team members to support professional growth.
  • In collaboration with Partners, leads in marketing and business development discussions.
  • Build and foster relationships with existing and potential clients and explore new business opportunities.
  • In collaboration with Partners, lead and collaborate on the preparation of responses to RFP's; the development of new business and strategic directions.


Key Qualifications

  • A planning degree from a recognized university; Masters preferred
  • Full CIP/OPPI Membership, MCIP and RPP Designation
  • Fully competent in planning competencies as outlined in OPPI with the ability to manage and mentor team members in their progression in achieving these competencies
  • A valid driver's licence and access to a vehicle
  • Excellent research and analytical skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills including the ability to assess critical issues
  • Excellent organization and project management skills
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent writing, organizational, and time management skills

Experience

  • Related and progressive experience in the Urban Planning field
  • Proven history of mentoring and developing Junior and intermediate planners
  • Excellent knowledge of Provincial legislation and municipal planning practices; including current Provincial Policy Framework, Planning Act, Growth Plan, Provincial Policy Statements (PPS) and Official Plans and Zoning By-Laws; with an ability to translate the information for clients.
  • Excellent understanding and demonstrated creativity in developing and responding to urban design.
  • Extensive experience coordinating a range of complicated development applications within medium to large municipalities (local experience is preferred).
  • Excellent technical writing skills, including planning rationales, policy documents, etc.
