Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Creative Director for the University Communications and Marketing department. Among the key duties of the position are the following:

  • Handles the strategy and production of marketing communication materials and leads the graphic design, photography, and digital media creation within University Communications and Marketing.
  • Defines the creative approach for editorial and graphic elements, sets goals, makes assignments, reviews creative solutions, and designs assets.
  • Generates ideas and provides a creative vision for the unit.
  • Leads the development of a thoughtful, strategic, and consistent brand presentation.
  • Oversees the production of a portfolio of related creative content.
  • Works directly with members of the creative team along with others across the department and university to apply skills and knowledge of the latest trends in creative execution and design.
  • Leads the development of outstanding content for the web, social media, video, photo, and print that effectively engages target audiences to achieve established goals.
  • Handles for the tempo and quality of the work produced by the creative team, and often works directly with university stakeholders to generate a broad range of marketing communication materials, collateral, design work and other products as needed.
  • Handles hiring, training, and motivating informed and engaged creative staff, and looks for ways to support their creativity and cultivate their professional development.
  • Creates synergies across the university to identify strategic and purposeful implementations of visual design and messaging.
QualificationsMinimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, advertising, fine art, graphic design, or experience in a relevant field.
  • Eight (8) years of experience in creative design as part of a complex organization.
  • Experience should include three (3) years of management experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong understanding of industry trends and creative tools as well as experience managing creative teams.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, problem-solving, and project-management skills.
  • Ability to work well with all types of people at all levels of the institution.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Expert-level experience with and knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite tools, including InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator.
  • Portfolio of creative work.
  • Ability to be a creative, strategic thinker and proven problem-solver.
  • Ability to collaborate with others.
  • Ability to work autonomously and as a team member and team leader.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure of deadlines and able to manage workload to meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated track record of producing creative materials that have met his/her organization’s strategic goals and effectively conveyed key messages to target audiences.
Preferred QualificationsPhysical Demands and Work Environment
  • Must effectively manage multiple projects and balance competing priorities.
  • Works some evening and weekend hours when required.
  • Occasionally uses personal vehicle for inter campus travel.
