Foothills School Division (the Division) serves the learning needs of approximately 8000 students from preschool to grade 12. We operate 22 public schools, an online digital school, an alternative campus, and three colony schools. These are located in the towns of Okotoks, High River, and Diamond Valley, and the communities of Blackie, Cayley, Heritage Heights, Red Deer Lake, Longview, Millarville and Foothills County.

The Opportunity
To support a temporary leave of absence, the Division is seeking an Interim Accountant to work with the Financial Services department to prepare the 2023-2024 Audited Financial Statements, as well as to provide assistance in preparing reports and overseeing the implementation of the 2024-2025 budget.
This short-term commitment is an excellent opportunity for someone with school division experience who is transitioning from full-time employment and is looking to remain engaged in the workforce. Due to the temporary nature of the role, we are flexible with full-time or part-time hours of work for the right candidate.
Position Overview & Requirements
Under the direction and supervision of the Assistant Superintendent of Corporate Services/Secretary-Treasurer, the Interim Accountant will work in supporting Financial Services through:
- Preparing the Audited Financial Statements (AFS), in conjunction with Financial Services. Previous AFS can be found by following this link.
- Liaising with the division’s external auditors in relation to the audited financial statement and other financial consulting services.
- Liaising with Alberta Education in matters related to the audited financial statement, budget reports and other required financial documentation.
- Assisting in the implementation of the 2024-2025 budget.
- Providing schools, departments, and the Executive team with timely and accurate data and analysis.
- Providing support to the Financial Services Department to ensure quality financial and accounting practices.
- Cultivating and modeling respect, professional learning, and ethical leadership.
This position requires a Professional Accounting designation CPA (CMA, CGA, CA) plus considerable, directly related financial and auditing experience in a public or large financial organization. Experience working in the education sector is preferred.
