We currently have an opportunity for a Communications Specialist within Integrated Communications – Grand River & St. Mary’s General Hospitals.


How Communications Specialist support our teams:

  1. Reporting to the Integrated Director of Strategic Communications, the Communications Specialist is integral to Grand River Hospital and St. Mary’s General Hospital’s Integrated Communications Team, specializing in communications and engagement.
  2. Responsible for developing, delivering and measuring innovative and effective internal communications that support the strategic priorities of the Hospitals, the Communications Specialist is a creative, self-starter with superior writing, verbal, problem-solving and strategic communication skills. This role requires flexibility and the ability to thrive under pressure in a dynamic and evolving healthcare environment.
  3. The Communications Specialist collaborates with multiple internal and external partners, including government partners, leveraging their passion for storytelling to produce engaging content for a wide variety of audiences through various vehicles and tactics.

The Communications Specialist has:

  1. Diploma/degree in Public Relations, Government Relations, Communications, Journalism or related field of studies.
  2. 5+ years of experience writing for a variety of audiences, styles and communication vehicles.
  3. A storyteller first and foremost, with superior oral and written communications skills and demonstrated experience writing highly engaging content for internal and external audiences.
  4. Strong interpersonal, collaborative and relationship-building skills.
  5. A problem solver who thrives on tackling challenges and finding creative solutions.
  6. Ability to work independently and as a team.
  7. Ability to respect confidential and sensitive subject matter and be diplomatic.
  8. Excellent time management skills and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  9. Strong attention to detail and ability to ensure consistency in messaging.
  10. Understanding of corporate brand and following guidelines to maintain consistency across platforms.
  11. Experience communicating with union and non-union teams is an asset.
  12. A creative and innovative thinker with demonstrated knowledge, skill and experience in supporting, executing and measuring strategic communication plans.
