Human Resources & Payroll Director – Private Career College

Join our leading private career college network as an experienced HR & Payroll Director. We seek a dynamic individual to manage our HR department comprehensively, handling payroll processing, employee benefits administration, recruitment, employee relations, and regulatory compliance. This role is critical in creating a cohesive, supportive environment aligned with our mission to empower students and staff alike. Key Responsibilities:

  • Payroll Management: Oversee the end-to-end payroll process, including accurate payroll review, compliance with payroll regulations, and maintaining payroll records using ADP Workforce Now, PowerPay, and Ceridian systems.
  • Benefits Administration: Manage employee benefit plans and resolve benefit-related issues. Coordinate with providers to support employees’ needs seamlessly.
  • Leave Management: Administer medical, parental, and long-term disability leaves. Act as a liaison with benefits providers to ensure seamless processing and employee support.
  • Talent Acquisition & Onboarding: Lead recruitment efforts from creating job descriptions to candidate screening and interviewing. Design and execute onboarding experiences that set new employees up for success.
  • Employee Relations & Performance Management: Provide guidance to employees and managers on HR-related matters such as performance management, conflict resolution, and employee relations.
  • Policy Development: Develop and implement HR policies aligned with our mission and values. Ensure compliance with employment laws, including the Employment Standards Act, Human Rights Act, and Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Advisory Support: Serve as an advisor on HR policies, compensation, benefits, and collective agreements. Assist in updating the Employee Handbook and provide coaching on policy adherence.
  • Record Keeping & Reporting: Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records, including attendance, performance, and payroll documentation.
  • HR Budgeting: Oversee the HR budget, forecasting, and reporting on HR-related expenses.
  • Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Partner with the IT team on HR system security and participate in college-wide projects and initiatives.
  • Offboarding: Manage voluntary and involuntary terminations, conducting exit interviews, coordinating clearance procedures, and ensuring a respectful offboarding process.
  • Attendance & Absenteeism Management: Address attendance issues, implement return-to-work programs, and provide disciplinary support when needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in HR management, including payroll administration.
  • Strong knowledge of Alberta’s employment laws and regulations.
  • Experience in a private career college environment is preferred.
  • Proficiency in HRIS systems like Ceridian Dayforce is an asset.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, with a focus on accurate record-keeping.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word.
