Building Automation Designer


The Building Automation Designer will be responsible for the accurate, timely preparation of full-set Building Automation Shop Drawings and As-Builts for projects, including Network Architecture, Bill of Materials, Equipment Drawings, Controller and Device Selection for submission. Projects can range from Bid-spec to Renovation Additions and Design-Build. The Building Automation Designer must have a good working knowledge of both Mechanical and Electrical Systems to properly design all Building Automation aspects of projects. The Building Automation Designer shall be fluent in Cube or applicable comparable BAS Design Software, also, Microsoft Dynamics, Procore and Cube Estimating/Design Software.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Include, but are not limited to the following:

  • · Review plans, specifications and estimate documents to develop the control system design drawings
  • · Produce design drawings using Cube, Visio and/or other drawing software, including detailed schematics, connection wiring diagrams, cable routing diagrams, panel layouts, bills of material, sequences of operation
  • · Work with Clients, Sales, Estimators, Project Managers and Field Staff to accurately strategize, design and complete as-builts for a full BAS system in design build applications
  • · Design Networks and Equipment drawings based on Specification and Site information
  • · Selection of BAS Controllers, Network, and End Devices
  • · Compilation of information for submittal
  • · Maintain design software with an up-to-date database of templates
  • · Participate in Project kick-off and close-out meetings
  • · Any and all other duties as assigned to meet Company objectives

Educational And Professional Requirements:

· Engineering degree (Eng.) from four-year college or university, or a minimum of five (5) years Design experience in the Building Automation industry, and practical knowledge of field requirements and restrictions; OR

· Minimum of five years Building Automation field experience and/or training; OR

· Equivalent combination of education and experience; and successful completion of BAS program in post-secondary education environment.

· Prior experience with Cube, Visio is an asset.

· Fundamental understanding of Johnson Controls, Schneider, Honeywell and/or other Building Automation Systems.

· Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

· Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Working Conditions:

· Travel to sites may be required

· Onsite investigation

· Ability to attend and conduct presentations and meetings.

· Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals.

· Overtime as required.

· Lifting or moving up to 20lbs may be required.
