The Director, Strategic Initiatives contributes to the overall success of Global Fraud Management ‘GFM’ by ensuring specific goals, plans, initiatives are executed/delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. This role leads the strategic planning process, develops long-term goals, and aligns projects and initiatives in order to deliver targeted outcomes against our strategic objectives. This role guides the use of frameworks and tools to develop strategy and establishes management routines around monitoring and refinement of the strategic plan. The Director, Strategic Initiatives will advance how we measure performance and outcomes of strategic planning initiatives, coordinated across GFM to optimize strategy impact and value. With deep Fraud subject matter expertise, this role also provides advisory support and guidance to the senior leadership, consulting on a complex range of topics which include industry trends and macro-level future insights.

Is this role right for you? In this role you will:

  1. Lead and drive a client-focused culture by supporting and delivering a winning team and simplify & deliver strategy throughout their team. Works with the fraud leadership team to lead Global Fraud Management’s strategic plan design, development, monitoring and ongoing refinement.
  2. Work with the leadership team to identify, develop and refine performance measures and key performance metrics which support the strategic management process.
  3. Create and maintain a centre of excellence by operating impartially across GFM business team to connect initiatives and identify optimization opportunities in partnership with Ops. Coordinate the global view of programs and initiatives which support strategic goals and objectives. Evaluate and monitor the effectiveness of existing strategies, program initiatives, working closely with cross-functional teams.
  4. Leverage research and insights to identify emerging trends and opportunities for innovation and change. Involved in the monitoring of industry and competitive landscapes to identify potential threats and risks.
  5. Gather, analyze, and present GFM employee engagement metrics to drive the delivery of GFM targeted initiatives.
  6. Build strategic presentations and communications that focus on providing insight into goals, strategy, programs, processes, and vision of executive leadership, strengthening executive and employee experience.
  7. Develop strong relationships with key stakeholders to become a trusted advisor and strategic partner in the identification and execution of transformational and/or continuous improvement initiatives. Provide comprehensive advisory support.
  8. Contribute to the overall success of the Global Fraud Management function, ensuring specific individual goals, plans and initiatives are delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. Ensure all activities conducted in accordance with Scotiabank’s values and Code of Conduct and are in compliance with governing regulation and internal policies, procedures, and standards.
  9. Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We’d love to work with you if you have:

  1. 10+ years working in a leadership capacity within payments or a financial services organization.
  2. Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of fraud management including operations, with exposure to threat-intelligence/management, customer identity and access management (CIAM), and cyber security functions.
  3. A strong communicator with a big picture focus, creative mindset/problem solver and has a comfort with, and a strong desire for interacting with leadership, management, employees and stakeholders.
  4. Consulting experience with a focus on strategy and performance management.
  5. Proven track record of successfully leading strategic planning initiatives and driving organizational growth.
  6. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think strategically and provide innovative solutions.
  7. Sound strategic planning and project management skills (including change management), capable of handling multiple initiatives concurrently.
  8. Excellent presentation skills, with the ability to effectively influence and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  9. Exceptional leadership and team management abilities, with a focus on fostering a high-performance culture.
  10. Excellent interpersonal skills, able to establish and maintain relationships with internal and external key stakeholders.
  11. Track record of building and deepening relationships as a collaborator, strategic thinker, and independently drives initiative.
  12. Political sensitivity and proven superior consultative, relationship building and management skills to drive/direct a shared agenda to successful outcomes.
  13. Bilingualism in Spanish is an asset.
