We are seeking a Sr Manager Government & Stakeholder Relations to join our team. Government and Stakeholder Relations leads the integrated advocacy and stakeholder relations activities at Extendicare to support the organization’s vision, mission and strategic priorities.


This position will be located at our Head Office in Markham, ON and offers a hybrid work environment.


Responsibilities:


Establishes Extendicare as an industry leader:

  • Represents the organization on industry associations and at meetings and committees with government partners and other stakeholders
  • Coordinates representation of other senior leaders on industry associations, meetings and tables in all jurisdictions to enhance Extendicare’s reputation as an industry leader


Oversees adaptation to policy environment:

  • Facilitates preparation of organization’s research into and response to regulatory, legislative and policy changes
  • Develops deep knowledge and expertise on relevant policy issues
  • Ensures Senior Leaders are aware of relevant regulatory, legislative and policy changes
  • Coordinates across divisions to ensure that all interests are promoted to external stakeholders


Government relations and advocacy:

  • Oversees, manages and co-develops long range advocacy plans with measurable goals and milestones
  • Devises and executes political and public policy advocacy campaigns to support strategic objectives, including long-term care development, and protect and enhance Extendicare’s reputation with key decision makers
  • Develop trusted relationships with government and other stakeholders


Partnership Development:

  • Facilitates internal stakeholder connections across divisions and departments
  • Regularly scans the external environment to identify strategic partnership opportunities
  • Coaches team members throughout the organization to identify and foster strategic partnerships


Requirements:


  • Post secondary degree in public policy, political science or related discipline or commensurate experience.
  • Minimum 8-10 years progressive public policy and stakeholder relations experience, preferably in the health sector.
  • Strong relationship management skills and ability to manage competing interests of multiple stakeholders.
  • Proven team leader and manager
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills, with the ability to present information clearly and effectively; an active listener who projects an approachable demeanour.
  • Ability to achieve outcomes through influence, persuasion and consensus building
  • Customer-focused attitude, with the ability to understand, anticipate and identify customers needs while using information to provide individualized service.
  • Ability to prioritize effectively and work in a rapidly shifting environment.
  • Sense of curiosity and ability to learn quickly about nuanced business and political issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships with municipal, provincial and/or federal governments and in-depth understanding of political decision-making.
  • Superb organization, planning, time management and multi-tasking skills.
  • Compelling public speaker with superior presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Board of Director experience an asset.
