About Kingston Ross Pasnak LLP

Kingston Ross Pasnak LLP is the largest local, independent, full-service accounting firm in Alberta. But that doesn’t mean we’re only about spreadsheets and number crunching. When we come to work daily, we are driven by a desire to be creative and continually open to new possibilities. This includes building strong relationships with all the people we serve — our clients, our team members and our community. What matters most to us is staying connected, versatile and accessible. These are the qualities that allow us to make a real difference in people’s lives and empower them to reach their full potential.

We are an exceptional company – we embrace making small investments, learning from failures quickly, and growing stronger together. We seek inventive problem-solvers who prioritize customers to uncover victories across diverse sectors.

We don't hire for compatibility; we hire for contribution. We search for candidates who embody our core values: Advancement, Accountability, Empathy, Intention, Openness, and Uniqueness. If you're enthusiastic about KRP, flourish in a dynamic setting, and aspire to collaborate with a brilliant, diverse team, we'd love to hear from you

Your Opportunity

Our Indirect Tax practice area is growing and we’re looking to find the right person to grow with it. This entry level position will report directly to the Taxation Manager and truly has unlimited growth potential. Indirect tax is very niche area of taxation and is in no way a typical “accounting’ field.

Your experience in KRP’s Indirect Tax practice will begin with training to help familiarize you with basic accounting fundamentals, basic income tax fundamentals, and familiarity training with the various accounting software used on a daily basis in our firm. Next you will receive detailed training in value-added tax and retail sales tax, which will become your area of practice.

Your scope:

Research and Analysis:

· Conduct in-depth research on specific topics related to indirect tax laws, regulations, and practices.

· Summarize findings and insights to prepare briefings for direct supervisors or internal staff as required.

Documentation Preparation:

· Draft simple technical memoranda or segments of complex technical memoranda on various indirect tax matters.

· Prepare other written deliverables such as reports, presentations, and guidelines for clients.

Support on Indirect Tax Projects:

· Assist with various indirect tax projects as needed, which may include data analysis and presentation.

Client Support:

· Address inquiries and assist internal accounting staff regarding clients' indirect tax issues.

· Collaborate with clients to gather necessary information and to support communication on indirect tax matters.

Interdepartmental Collaboration:

· Collaborate with team members from different departments on projects such as financial statement audits to ensure proper communication of indirect tax issues.

Tax Filings and Compliance:

· Prepare and file various indirect tax documents including information returns, elections, registration requests, etc., ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulations.

Career growth potential:

Our clients include publicly traded companies, non-profit organizations, charities, municipalities, financial institutions, oil and gas, First Nations, real estate developers, international importers, etc. As you develop a deeper understanding of indirect taxation, you will have the opportunity to progress into supporting clients directly with preparing information for various tax authorities during audits and examinations, writing technical memoranda for complex taxation issues, reviewing plans for mergers, acquisitions and reorganizations for indirect tax implications, risks and opportunities.

If this area of practice aligns with your interests and skills, you will be supported in growing into an indirect tax practitioner including the potential to be promoted into Manager and more senior roles.

Your qualifications:

· No previous experience in tax or accounting is required, any accounting knowledge required will be provided through training

· A college diploma in any subject or a Bachelor’s degree in any subject would be considered an asset

· Prior experience in professional service firms, law, accounting, finance, engineering, or any bookkeeping experience in any industry including but not limited to GST/HST, payroll, tax, would be an asset

In your application, please be sure to highlight any education or professional experience you have that is related to:

· Accounting, tax, finance, or law

· Teaching and instructional skills

· Written communication skills (technical writing, proposal writing, editing, journalism, etc.)

· Research skills and report writing

· Software such as Microsoft office, CaseWare, Tax prep, QuickBooks, Simply Accounting.

Your character:

Excited by challenges and learning something new

You thrive when faced with novel problems that don’t have templated solutions, finding fulfillment in overcoming obstacles and tackling tasks head-on. While most people gravitate towards work that they feel comfortable with, you prefer the thrill of having to learn something new.

Relentlessly Curious

You want to grasp the bigger picture and uncover the underlying principles behind every solution.

Self-Reliant

You understand that self-discovery fosters a deeper comprehension of a topic that is unmatched by simply seeking assistance every time you can’t find what you are looking for. It’s not that you’re afraid to ask for help, it’s that you enjoy the process of figuring things out.

Effective Communication Skills

You excel in both verbal and written communication and are adept at simplifying complex concepts through visual aids such as charts, diagrams, and reference tables, tailoring your message to suit diverse audiences. You probably enjoy teaching or giving a presentation on a topic that you’re passionate about.

Multitasker

You have exceptional time management and organizational skills which allow you to complete various tasks and projects simultaneously.

Your Perks:

  • A total rewards package, including above market salary and annual bonuses
  • Three weeks vacation and winter holiday office closure (starting base)
  • Ten personal days
  • 100% employer match on medical and dental benefits
  • Health spending account
  • On-site fitness center
  • Tuition reimbursement and professional development
  • A flexible and remote working model
  • A unique opportunity to build, grow, and leave your impact on a local firm

  • Have a thirst for knowledge
  • Are intrinsically motivated
  • Desire to learn new skills
  • Treat others with respect
  • Want to work with the best
