Your work environment at EXP

In this role, you will be a part of the Mining team, based in the Brampton, Hamilton, Sudbury, or North Bay ON office. What a day at EXP has in store for you:

  1. Perform site visits to inspect and assess existing mining infrastructure.
  2. Perform analysis and design of steel structures and concrete foundations per the applicable codes and standards in the mining and heavy industrial sector.
  3. Prepare sketches and collaborate with the designers to produce detailed drawings.
  4. Coordinate with the clients and other disciplines in developing the layout designs.
  5. Prepare engineering calculations, technical specifications, and scope documents.
  6. Prepare and contribute to technical memos and reports, within areas of expertise.
  7. Undertake the detailed working drawings of steel, concrete, wood, and masonry.
  8. Ensure all assigned projects are carried out per the scope, budget, and schedule.
  9. Participate and assist in proposal preparations.
  10. Perform post IFC services such as shop drawing reviews and field reviews.
  11. Stamp documents and drawings as required and if appropriately registered.
  12. Implement the safety and integrity principles in structural documentation.
What your experience looks like
  1. Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from a recognized University.
  2. Registration as a Professional Engineer (within the province) is mandatory.
  3. Minimum 5+ years project engineering, design, and construction experience in surface and underground mining.
  4. Design and construction experience in heavy industry.
  5. Experience in structural inspections and assessments.
  6. Strong hands-on experience in the analysis and design of steel structures, reinforced concrete structures, building and heavy equipment foundations, preferably in mining.
  7. Experience in environmental structures considered an asset.
  8. Experience in steel and concrete design for various miscellaneous industrial structures such as pipe racks, equipment platforms, pump foundations, retaining walls, monorails, etc.
  9. Proficiency in application of NBC, OBC, and other relevant codes and standards.
  10. Familiarity with Mine Health and Safety Regulations.
  11. Knowledge of mining-related processes a definite asset.
  12. Proficiency in Structural Analysis and Design.
  13. Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary BIM environment.
  14. Strong computer-oriented skills (MS Office products, MathCAD).
  15. Organized, self-motivated, pro-active, detail-oriented and have strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  16. Ability to function with minimal supervision.
  17. Multi-tasking and ability to manage multiple projects and assignments.
  18. Experience in the use of procedures and workflows in the execution of projects.
  19. Must be a team player and can work collaboratively with others.
  20. Excellent problem-solving skills and critical thinking.
