Job Description

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assume leadership of the organization's pork division as an expert, senior voice in the industry.
  • Provide a vision for the Canadian pork industry while working with colleagues, funding members, and Board of Directors.
  • Leading and mentoring a high-performance team in a fast-paced industry, while communicating and building collaborative relationships with the Canadian Pork Council (CPC) and our Provincial Pork Organizations (PPO).
  • Defining market access strategies and alignment to ensure Canada has a leadership position in the pork market, both domestically and globally.
  • Champion competitive regulatory policies to sustain Canada’s global competitive position.
  • Establish and maintain strategic relationships in Canada and abroad with representatives of the federal government, foreign countries, Canadian missions abroad, CP members and their main clients in targeted key markets.
  • Oversight of operations and programs of CP's offices in Japan and China.
  • Support CP members with market access, trade development, program and service functions, government programs, communications, and major events.
  • Help build the pork section of the strategic plan as well as annual strategic and operational planning.
  • Help to build Agri-Marketing funding application for the pork division with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada and define funding policies and priorities for members.
  • Expand the market share of further processed pork and value-added products in domestic and global markets.
  • Elevate and champion key pork division opportunities and/or constraints to CMC/CPC Joint Advocacy Committee.
  • Participate in the CMC Pork Committee and facilitate action within the pork division.
  • Inform and Support the CEO on all matters with CMC Pork Division.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • A bachelor’s degree in business or related field of equivalent experience;
  • Over 10-15 years of experience in the meat industry, preferably pork;
  • Extensive technical knowledge of meat specifications;
  • Understanding of the Canadian food retail industry;
  • Ability to execute contracts, manage budgets and evaluate performance;
  • Consumer and market research skills would be an asset;
  • Fluency in English and French would be an asset; and
  • Able and available to travel within Canada and abroad.

Ideal candidates would possess:

  • A proven track record driving results in core business functions including leadership and management, financial management, and strategic planning;
  • Experience in the development and execution of effective international government relations and market initiative strategies;
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills;
  • Strong strategic relationships and network within industry;
  • Extensive technical knowledge of meat specifications; and
  • Understanding of the Canadian food retail industry.
