The opportunity

Our Special Asset Management Unit (SAMU) team is on the search for a Sr Manager, Specialist Asset Management. This role handles and adjudicates various levels of complex and critical client relationships in the high-risk small and medium business portfolio Reporting to the AVP & Manager, Special Asset Management, this role will lead a number of high-risk small and medium business accounts ranging in exposure up to $3MM.

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead the critical nature of client relationships for identified risk business portfolios while upholding CWB's values within every interaction.
  • Develop client relationships under trying conditions, find comfort with open and transparent discussions with the borrowers while maintaining client engagement.
  • Maintain experienced knowledge of clients and prospects, market, competition and economic factors.
  • Develop and implement a relationship strategy for clients, identifying the issues surrounding the relationship.
  • Provide recommendations to retain and restructure business accounts or to exit the account, based on CWB’s risk appetite.
  • Day-to-day management of business accounts and the recovery and restructuring of loans.
  • Review complex and demanding loans, perform oversight of watch loans.
  • Partner with resources and vendors in improving repayment.
  • Leverage knowledge of legal requirements for collections, collateral management, and valuation.
  • Underwrite deals, ensuring all aspects are accurately set up and updated.
  • Undertake due diligence on business plans and pro-forma statements.
  • Responsible for adhering to reporting requirements on the high-risk small business portfolio.
  • Accountable for completion of the vital initial recommendations along with quarterly reports.
Who we’re looking for & what you’ve done Experience & Education
  • Five (5) years of strong lending background in commercial and small business lending.
  • Three (3) years of direct underwriting experience.
  • Direct experience running problem accounts and work-out situations.
Skills & Abilities
  • Shown success in client engagement and retention.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and mediation skills.
  • Understanding of legal issues around BIA, insolvency, and asset recovery.
  • Ability to establish effective relationships with various internal and external partners.
  • Sound problem-solving skills and shown judgment.
  • Excellent risk analysis skills.
