Position Summary:
Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Finance Manager is accountable for the management of the Corporate Accounting Section of the Finance Department. The successful candidate will oversee all accounting processes and will be highly involved in year-end audit, internal control development/monitoring, planning workflow for the corporate accounting team and overseeing the finance modules in Meditech. The Finance Manager will collaborate with teams across the organization to best support them from a finance perspective.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Responsible for overseeing accounting processes including accounts payable/receivable, general accounting, SSAH and the ABA Accounting Clerk. Making recommendations to changes in process or adapting to emerging issues in accounting.
  2. Responsible for month end and year end close in Meditech modules (BAR/AP/GL) and reviewing daily journals posted.
  3. On a monthly basis, the preparation of internal financial statements template, review of the completed file for accuracy, completeness and appropriate explanations for variances.
  4. Responsible for coordinating the preparation of quarterly financial reports for the board.
  5. Monitoring of short-term investment and cash balances, identifying GICs due for renewal in advance of maturity date and reporting on excess cash as required.
  6. Responsible for the supervision and development of the corporate accounting team members (5). Planning is required to ensure this small team has sufficient coverage, key activities are covered and workload is managed at peak times.
  7. Responsible for coordinating the annual financial statement audit with the external auditor.
  8. Responsible for monthly account reconciliation reviews and following up on reconciling items that are not resolved in a timely manner with the responsible team member.
  9. Supporting the Goods Received Not Invoiced monthly review ensuring that all receiving issues are resolved in a timely manner.
  10. Responsible for ensuring the Signing Authority Matrix is kept current in the materials management module of Meditech.
  11. Maintain the Chart of Accounts.
  12. Ensure banking arrangements are current, review and approve payments, and assist with other banking activities.
  13. Responsible for overseeing the testing of Meditech semi-annual updates to ensure financial functionality is maintained after the upgrade is completed. Exploring new functionality that will drive efficiency in the finance department.
  14. Develop and maintain strong internal controls over corporate accounting activities. Determining where risks exist, recommending appropriate internal controls and monitoring/adjusting as required after implementation.
  15. Special projects and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  1. Must possess a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation or equivalent experience.
  2. Minimum of 5 years management experience with recent senior financial experience in the health care and/or non-profit sector preferred.
  3. Experience with accounting / management information systems (Meditech System and Cognos experience is preferred).
  4. Proven skills and knowledge in financial statement preparation and analysis, and current knowledge of GAAP related to the not-for-profit sector.
  5. Superior knowledge of computer applications (Microsoft Teams).
  6. Proven team builder.
  7. Excellent analytical, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  8. Demonstrated ability to work independently, handle a high volume of work and able to prioritize to meet deadlines.
