Tube Mill Operator

The Tube Mill Operator will be a critical member in the launching of our new tube mill. They will ensure production is done safely, effectively and efficiently working with team members to help create high quality tube. The ideal candidate will have previous experience running a tube mill and be willing to take a key role in training others.


Responsibilities

  • Overall responsibility for tube production and driving the mill line (profile, weld quality, OD/ID scarf condition, straightness, saw cutting, packaging, and order fulfillment).
  • Review all shop orders and drawing specifications with the Mill crew. This includes verification and documentation of slit coil and steel tubing during the manufacturing process.
  • Work closely with Mill Crane operator, Shear and End Welder, Toolers, Forming & Sizing section operators, Cut-off Saw, and Packaging operators to monitor the entirety of the production process.
  • Set and adjust machine parameters and rolls
  • Check offline rafts for the next setup and set up mill rolls during rebuilds and changeovers
  • Verify staged material/staged packaging matches shop orders.
  • Retrieve samples, measure samples, adjust if necessary, and record setup data.
  • Verify quality of all finished product.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry heavy objects (up to 60 lbs.), stand for extended periods, bend, kneel, and work in various environmental conditions.
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements include enhanced visibility work uniforms, eye protection, hearing protection, and foot protection.
  • Operation of various machinery and equipment, including hand tools, overhead cranes, forklifts, heavy machinery, welding, and cutting equipment.
  • Must be able to stand and walk for up to 8-10 hours per day or for extended periods to cover shift needs.


Qualifications

  • Direct, hands-on experience in operating and managing tube mills and related equipment.
  • Proven ability to proactively achieve performance goals.
  • Strong technical knowledge of tube mill processes, equipment, and materials.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong leadership and teamwork abilities to lead and train others.
  • Solid understanding of safety regulations and best practices in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in computerized systems for production planning, inventory management, and quality control.
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Dependable, team-oriented, positive attitude.
