Job Title: Market Risk Business Analyst

Location: Toronto, Canada (initially remote, with potential for in-office presence)

Reporting To: COO & IT Department Leadership


Overview:

The Market Risk Business Analyst will play a critical role in delivering custom risk solutions, ensuring alignment between front office and risk requirements. This individual will collaborate closely with stakeholders across risk, front office, and IT teams to develop global, scalable risk reporting tools and workflows that integrate seamlessly with existing ETRM systems.


Key Responsibilities:

Custom Development for Risk and Front Office Integration:

  • Work on the delivery of tools and solutions for pricing, VAR (Value at Risk), position reporting, and other risk metrics.
  • Ensure alignment between front office and risk requirements to avoid siloed solutions.


Risk Warehouse Consolidation:

  • Lead the migration from legacy Risk Warehouse databases to a unified global risk reporting platform.
  • Collaborate with developers and quantitative analysts to enhance risk engine capabilities with modular and flexible quantitative methodologies.


Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Serve as the bridge between IT developers, risk teams, and front office stakeholders to ensure effective communication of requirements and solutions.
  • Raise potential alignment issues in development projects and provide insights to prevent conflicts across systems.


Workflow and Data Visualization:

  • Build and refine workflow tools for operational processes and global reporting needs.
  • Support the development of data visualization solutions to enhance risk reporting.


Collaboration and Change Management:

  • Participate in reviewing and improving business processes to ensure scalable solutions.
  • Advocate for business-side ownership of change management and transformation, minimizing technology-driven fixes for process issues.


Requirements:


Experience:

  • Strong background in Market Risk, with knowledge of pricing, VAR, and other risk metrics.
  • Hands-on experience working in a commodities trading or related financial environment is highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with ETRM systems and their role as systems of record for trade data.


Skills:

  • Ability to understand and articulate the “big picture” while delivering specific components of risk and operational tools.
  • Strong communication skills to liaise with developers and business stakeholders effectively.
  • Analytical mindset to identify potential conflicts and align solutions across departments.


Technical Knowledge:

  • While not mandatory, experience with quantitative models and methodologies for risk calculation is a plus.
  • Basic understanding of data layers and visualization tools.


Preferred Background:

  • Commodities knowledge is ideal, particularly in crude, LNG, power, and gas trading (physical and/or derivatives).
  • Candidates with a hybrid background of business knowledge and technical aptitude are highly desirable.
