The North Simcoe Muskoka (NSM) Specialized Geriatric Services (SGS) Program, a regional program under the leadership of Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care, was established in 2016 to advance the care of complex/frail older adults and caregivers in the NSM region.

With a mandate for leadership and advocacy, clinical service, education and mentorship, research and ethics, the program collaborates with a broad variety of partners from within and outside the NSM health system to improve patient outcomes, build capacity and foster system change.


The NSM SGS program is currently seeking a Manager, Clinical Leadership to work as part of a highly collaborative leadership team.

The Manager will help improve the health and well-being of complex/frail older adults and their caregivers by advancing clinical practice and by pushing the boundaries of clinical excellence, innovation and knowledge translation.

To achieve these ends, the Manager will partner with the inter-professional team, the leadership team, the Waypoint team, and with a broad range of external and provincial partners.


Please note:

This position offers a hybrid work environment consisting of in-office and remote work. The main leadership office site of the NSM SGS program in Barrie. Travel within and outside the NSM region is required for this role.


Key Accountabilities:

  • Provides clinical leadership within the program, including maintaining accountability for clinical best practices, shaping the strategic direction of the clinical services and programs and providing mentorship to members of the leadership and interprofessional team.
  • Develops, implements and evaluates clinical programs and initiatives that improve the quality of care for older adults and their caregivers, including clinical practice guidelines, standardized protocols, policies and order sets.
  • Provides consultative support and mentorship within the program in complex cases requiring advanced knowledge, skill and judgment.
  • Acts as a clinical resource and consultant to individuals and groups within the region, including leading the senior friendly care (sfCare) initiative in the region.
  • Stays abreast of leading practices and innovations related to clinical practice and, when appropriate, explores how to incorporate them into programming and practice.
  • Ensures alignment with professional practice requirements and standards.
  • Leads the development, implementation and evaluation of the knowledge translation/education strategy for the program, including program education and coaching/mentoring opportunities to build team and regional capacity.
  • Supports the professional development of interprofessional team members by providing clinical teaching, promoting evidenceinformed practice and providing resources that will meet learning needs.
  • Promotes a learning environment for older adults and their caregivers, health service providers, health care students, leaders and policy makers in the region.
  • Builds and sustains successful collaborative relationships with key stakeholders and partners at a local, provincial and national level to support health system transformation and integration.
  • Participates in the recruitment and retention of program staff, including participation in learning needs, performance reviews. Direct supervision of program team members is also required.
  • Participates in data/information analysis to identify and address gaps in care, issues in practice, risk issues and/or concerns related to the care of older adults and their caregivers. Participates in the development of a Quality Assurance environment.
  • Uses research to inform all aspects of SGS Program planning, implementation and evaluation, including leading or participating in the identifying of research topics and projects and stimulating research activities whose results may be applied in clinical practice and/or used to influence policy.
  • Represents the program and the region locally, provincially and, as appropriate, nationally and internationally.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • You must meet the requirements of our COVID19 Immunization Policy by providing proof of full vaccination, or a request and receipt of an accommodation under the Ontario Human Rights Code, including a medical exemption.
  • Regulated Health Professional with registration in good standing; graduate degree preferred.
  • Current certification in Gerontology and/or Geriatrics (i.e. academic institution, GNC(C) from the Canadian Nurses Association) preferred; membership in professional associations and/or interest groups an asset.
