SCOPE OF POSITION:

The Deputy Director, Humanitarian (DDH) assumes a pivotal role in steering Oxfam Canada's humanitarian initiatives, partnerships, advocacy, and fundraising efforts. They lead strategies to expand Oxfam Canada's reach and impact in humanitarian work, securing funding from various partners and positioning the organization as a thought leader in humanitarian response and gender-related emergency situations.

With guidance from a Humanitarian Manager, the Deputy Director ensures optimal management of financial and human resources within the Humanitarian Team. They also provide strategic support to the Director of International Programs and the Senior Leadership Team as needed.



MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Enhance Oxfam Canada's humanitarian expertise and influence in the sector
  • Lead and support the Humanitarian Manager and provide managerial advice
  • Set priorities, assign tasks, and oversee work
  • Represent Oxfam Canada in various forums and engagements
  • Lead fundraising efforts for humanitarian programs
  • Provide guidance to the Senior Leadership Team and Director of International Programs


REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE & COMPETENCIES:

  • Master's degree in relevant field preferred
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in humanitarian programming, advocacy, and management
  • Previous work in international development or humanitarian organizations
  • Strong network and relationship-building skills
  • Understanding of Canadian political and policy landscape
  • Proven track record in fundraising and program development
  • Excellent communication and advocacy skills
  • Commitment to diversity, inclusion, and humanitarian principles
