About This Opportunity

The role of Planning and Excellence Consultant involves collaborating with Skills and Learning Branch personnel, engaging in various projects, and often taking the lead to offer validated suggestions and advice to management in order to back decisions concerning programs, services, policies, and strategies.

Reporting to the Manager of Planning and Excellence, this position is pivotal in the department.

The Labour, Skills, and Immigration Department (LSI) is dedicated to ensuring fairness, safety, and prosperity for all Nova Scotians, aiding them in living, learning, and working to their fullest potential. With a team of over 500 employees stationed across Nova Scotia, our responsibilities encompass workplace safety, immigration, apprenticeship, adult education, supporting individuals in securing and retaining jobs in the region, and assisting employers in finding and training the workforce they require.

Key Responsibilities

As the Planning and Excellence Consultant, your duties will include:

  • Facilitating and partnering with other Skills and Learning Branch team members to develop strategic solutions for new initiatives and intricate challenges
  • Identifying workflow structures through workflow analysis techniques and tools to enhance programs and services
  • Leading reviews of program, process, and service delivery to pinpoint areas for enhancement using diverse business process improvement methods
  • Executing projects that align with client needs while supporting the Skills and Learning Branch's objectives
  • Promoting excellence in programs and services throughout the Skills and Learning Branch
Requirements and Background

The ideal candidate will have experience in participating in various projects using project management techniques. A dynamic and seasoned facilitator, you should be adept at collaborating with groups of all sizes to devise strategic initiatives and solutions for complex challenges. A related bachelor's degree with 5 years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and training is desirable.

Strong planning, research, and analytical skills are necessary for assessing existing and new programs and services. Developing and sustaining effective relationships with stakeholders, along with exceptional communication and problem-solving abilities, are crucial. Proficiency in time and project management, collaboration, organization, and analytical skills, as well as familiarity with Microsoft Office suite, are highly valued.

Additionally, experience with LEAN, LEAN Six Sigma tools, Lean Six Sigma Yellow and/or Green Belt, knowledge of Labour Market Programs Support System (LaMPSS), understanding of economic and demographic factors affecting service delivery, and fluency in French are advantageous.

Salary Range: $2, $3,107.16 Bi-Weekly
