The Opportunity


The Operations Department is comprised of four Branches: Administration, Parks and Forestry Operations, Roads and Fleet Operations and Solid Waste Operations.

Key responsibilities include the operation and maintenance of the City's public works infrastructure and systems including roadways; rail, winter maintenance; parks and green spaces, including forestry; solid waste operations; and maintenance of the corporation's fleet of vehicles and equipment.


Under the guidance and direction of the Supervisor of Administrative Services - Operations, the Operations Administrative & Technical Support Specialist position provides administrative and technical support related to the delivery of departmental services and programs, payroll entry and purchasing related duties while providing courteous, professional and timely customer service for all inquiries.

This position provides technical and general information to staff of Service Barrie and other stakeholders and answers technical and general information questions regarding the Operations Department services, procedures, practices, policies, and programs.

Specifically, this position receives inquiries, requests and/or complaints from Service Barrie and other stakeholders; triages the information to ensure it to be accurate, concise and actionable; and transfers inquiries and/or requests to the applicable Operations branch for action and response.

This position is also responsible for entry of a comprehensive payroll which requires research and a thorough knowledge of the Collective Agreement and City Policies.

Purchasing related responsibilities for purchase order creation and processing a large volume of invoices for payment.

Education (degree/diploma/certifications)

  • Two (2) year College Diploma in Office Administration, Business Administration or related discipline

Experience

  • Two (2) years of experience performing duties related to the above mentioned major responsibilities

Knowledge/Skill/Ability

  • General knowledge of municipal, regional, provincial and federal government services and programs
  • Intermediate knowledge of Cityworks (service request and work order creations and reports)
  • Demonstrated ability to:
