Position Information:


The coordinator reports to the manager of Translation Services, within the corporate Communications Department, in offices located at the General Campus of The Ottawa Hospital.

Once the coordinator can demonstrate autonomy, full-time telework will be permitted.


The coordinator must be fully bilingual, because interactions (both written and verbal) within the Translation team are conducted mainly in French.


Typically, the pace of work within the Communications Department is stable and enjoyable, and the work environment is very friendly, collaborative, and collegial.

However, when urgent translations are required, the coordinator's ability to perform multiple tasks quickly and accurately under pressure is essential.

Rotation/Shifts:

Days, 8-hour shifts. Weekdays, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Basic Requirements:

  • Minimum 4 years of experience in an administrative role requiring strong computer, customerservice and multitasking skills;
  • Minimum 2 years of experience operating an EnglishtoFrench computerassisted translation software (e.g. Multitrans, LogiTerm, Trados, memoQ)
  • Proven ability to learn to use, troubleshoot and master new technical systems within a short period;
  • Demonstrated ability, sense of initiative, and willingness to identify and perform tasks likely to contribute to optimizing service efficiency and excellence;
  • Demonstrated advanced skills using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Outlook;
  • Demonstrated resourcefulness and problemsolving skills;
  • Ability to prioritize and reconcile multiple conflicting priorities;
  • Ability to work quickly and accurately under pressure while remaining calm and positive;
  • Professional demeanor and strong communication skills;
  • Proven excellent organisational skills and ability to work methodically;
  • Accuracy and great attention to detail;
  • Superior customerservice skills;
  • Proficiency in English and French: oral expression (advanced level) and comprehension (advanced level).
  • Language proficiency requirements are based on the nature of the position and the level of interaction with French
- and English-speaking clients.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Postsecondary diploma in a secretarial program or equivalent;
  • Successful completion of TOH's training for iProcurement users;
  • Writing, translation, editing or proofreading experience in English and/or French;
  • Work experience operating a translation management system (e.g. BridgeTerm, FlowFit, Consoltec);
  • Successful completion of The Ottawa Hospital's medical terminology selfdirected learning program or certification in medical terminology from a recognized educational institution.
