JOB SUMMARY:


The role of the Relationship Manager is to source, create, build and maintain relationships, lead on the negotiations and drafting of associated relationship agreements, manage communications with external entities and other Indigenous Nations, support Chief and Council, staff throughout Tsleil-Waututh Nation on relationship negotiations and lead other specific projects, as directed by CAO and Council.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Builds and maintains relationship with external entities and leads the negotiation of associated agreements on behalf of Tsleil-Waututh Nation.
  • Ensures the vision laid out in the Tsleil-Waututh Nation Strategic Plan, Tsleil-Waututh Nation Declaration, Stewardship Policy, economic development strategy and overall Tsleil-Waututh philosophy is met, asserting Tsleil-Waututh's Aboriginal rights, title and interests.
  • Provides insight into the development and implementation of department policy and strategic initiatives.
  • Builds relationships with federal, provincial and local governments, private sector, nongovernmental organizations, academic institutions, industry and other Indigenous Nations.
  • Participates on own, with CAO, other Department directors and/or Council on boards with Indigenous Nations and other governments, private sector, and nongovernmental organizations.
  • Supports the CAO with political discussions and negotiations, as required.
  • Assists with ensuring communications within TWN departments and/or other Tsleil-Waututh governmental bodies are consistent and follow appropriate protocols.
  • In collaboration and through communication with TWN directors and staff, identifies opportunities for all departments, as well as community members, within TWN.
  • Strategizes, documents issues and potential resolutions related to agreement negotiations.
  • Drafts, reviews and collaborates on Briefing Notes for TWN Council, reports, letters and other documents.
  • Management of program budget including planning, invoicing, budget reporting and all other related tasks.
  • Responsible to actively seek and pursue new funding opportunities for the program.
  • Supervises, mentors and guides the Relationship Team and provides training, as needed, to other staff members.
  • Leads internal and external relationship meetings, developing/finalizing agendas.
  • Plans events related to relationship milestones and works with TWN staff to execute events.
  • Provides input into TWN communications and outreach, which may include the development of presentations, media releases, and council information packages.
  • Assists with the implementation and delivery of other TWN initiatives, as directed by CAO and Council.
  • Provides strategic input into the development of funding proposals, reports and other deliverables.
  • Prepares and presents updates and the analysis of results to a wide variety of internal groups, such as Council, colleagues, community members.
  • Other duties as assigned by the CAO.

CHIEF & COUNCIL SUPPORT FUNCTIONS:

  • Act as the face of Tsleil-Waututh Nation in relationship negotiations.
  • Support and lead Chief and Council in relationship negotiation opportunities and agreements.
  • Strong advocate for the needs and priorities of Tsleil-Waututh nation to external stakeholders, including government bodies, to ensure that their voices are heard and respected in decisionmaking processes.
  • Support Chief and Council in identifying opportunities for collaboration and partnershipbuilding with external entities to advance the interests and goals of Tsleil-Waututh nation. This may involve forming alliances for economic development, cultural preservation, or environmental stewardship.
  • Other duties as directed by Chief and Council

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Lived and/or work experience within an Indigenous Nation, particularly Tsleil-Waututh Nation.
  • Bachelor's Degree or combination of education and experience in a related field to Communications, Social Sciences, Business etc. with a minimum of 6 years professional work experience involving building relationships with diverse groups.
  • Deep understanding of Tsleil-Waututh Nation's values, culture, history and perspectives; ready to advocate on behalf of Tsleil-Waututh Nation.
  • Understanding of Aboriginal rights and title and the strategies employed by the Tsleil-Waututh Nation to protect Tsleil-Waututh's interests.
  • Understanding of current Indigenousfocused legislation and policy, such as UNDRIP, DRIPA, and the TRC Calls to Action.
  • Education and/or experience in business communications and reporting (written and verbal); ability to communicate effectively with personnel at all levels of business organizations.
  • Demonstrated experience leading negotiations and resolving conflict with a diverse range of organizations.
  • Demonstrated experience drafting and finalizing agreements with a diverse range of organizations.
