The Opportunity:

Reporting to the Controller, the
Manager, Financial Reporting will lead a team of professionals whose primary focus is the timely and accurate delivery of Nova Scotia Power's key external financial reports as well as certain other routine and ad hoc reporting.


Key elements of this role include:

  • Responsibility for the timely and accurate delivery of quarterly and annual MD&A and financial statements in accordance with US GAAP.
  • Responsibility for technical accounting and disclosure research under US GAAP.
  • Oversight of quarterly regulatory financial statements.
  • Oversight of pension accounting and annual pension financial statements.
  • Active role in regulatory proceedings relating to financial matters.
  • Supporting internal reporting of financial information to senior management.
  • Collaborating with external auditors to manage the status and completion of the quarterly review and annual audit process.
  • Oversight of the coordination, preparation, analysis and reporting of the annual budget and quarterly forecasts for Corporate Operating, Maintenance & General ("OM&G") as well as oversight of the monthly recording, reporting and variance analysis for Corporate OM&G.

  • A professional accounting designation (CPA
  • CA, CGA, and/or CMA) is required.
  • You bring 57 years of related accounting experience of which at least 2 years were focused on public company disclosure and reporting requirements.
  • Have current knowledge of US GAAP.
  • Are experienced in preparing and reviewing MD&A and financial statement footnote disclosures.
  • A detailoriented mindset complimented by excellent organizational skills is critical.
  • Ability to research and develop disclosure.
  • Others describe you as a strong team player with outstanding communication and interpersonal skills; someone who can build and maintain effective business relationships.
  • As a natural leader you bring demonstrated enthusiasm, initiative, and a strong commitment to professional development.
  • Strong knowledge of Word and Excel.
  • Experience leading a team and experience with consolidation and financial reporting software (Cognos Disclosure Management and Hyperion Financial Management) would be considered an asset.
