About Our Opportunity

As a Financial Analyst reporting to the Manager of Municipal Finance, your role involves conducting research, analysis, and providing advice on financial matters related to local government in Nova Scotia. You will be responsible for managing operational programs, maintaining knowledge of legislation, and ensuring financial accountabilities align with regulations and principles.

Primary Accountabilities

  • Conduct confidential research and analysis for municipalities
  • Administer operating programs for municipalities and villages
  • Communicate with finance staff and auditors for financial reviews
  • Ensure compliance with financial standards and reporting requirements
  • Analyze municipal performance and create reports
  • Provide data-driven insights through business analytics
  • Maintain the Municipal Reporting System (MRS)
  • Ensure accurate E-forms reflecting reporting requirements
  • Support municipal finance staff with reporting issues

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should have a bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance with at least five years of related experience. Strong analytical skills, time management, and proficiency in Microsoft Excel are required. Having a professional accounting designation or experience in municipal finance is advantageous.

Equivalency

Equivalencies in education and experience are considered for individuals with diverse backgrounds, including relevant Master's degrees or diplomas with related experience.
